Description
Nice Holystone is a character from the light novel and anime series Baccano! She is an explosives expert and the girlfriend of Jacuzzi Splot, with whom she co-leads a gang based in Chicago. As a child, Nice was badly injured in an accident while mixing chemicals to create a homemade explosive. The blast burned much of her upper body, left extensive scarring across her face and arms, and caused her to lose her right eye. She wears an eyepatch over the empty socket and also uses glasses because the damage affected her remaining eye.
Nice has a mellow disposition despite her fascination with destruction. She is calm and level-headed in situations where others might panic, and she often acts as a steadying influence on Jacuzzi Splot, who is prone to anxiety and tears. While Nice loves explosions and is always looking for new ways to set them off, she is also a capable and pragmatic leader. Once on board, they become entangled in a violent conflict between the Lemures gang, who are attempting to kidnap the wife and daughter of Senator Manfred Berium in order to force the senator to free Huey Laforet, and the Russo gang, led by the sadistic Ladd Russo, who intends to slaughter the passengers. Nice and her gang ultimately side with the passengers and fight back against the hijackers. She uses her explosives in combat and also carries ceramic grenades on her person, including a small grenade hidden inside her eye socket under her eyepatch.
After the events on the train, the gang flees Chicago after the Russo family takes over their base of operations. They are later hired by Eve Genoard and manage to sell the stolen explosives to miners and movie studios for a profit. They also take in Chane Laforet, the mute daughter of Huey Laforet, as a new member. When Chane is later kidnapped by Graham Spector and his gang, Nice and Jacuzzi, along with the rest of their group and the assassin Claire Stanfield, come to her rescue.
