TV-Series
Description
Emilie Fujiwara, known as Hazuki Fujiwara in the original Japanese version, is a central character in the anime Ojamajo Doremi. She is introduced as one of the main protagonists and holds the role of the Orange Witch Apprentice within the group of young magical girls. Emilie is a childhood friend of the series' lead character, Doremi Harukaze, having known her since kindergarten. Due to her family's wealth and the high expectations placed upon her, she initially comes across as extremely shy, timid, and passive, often struggling to express her own feelings for fear of displeasing others, particularly her parents.

In terms of background, Emilie was born on February 14th, making her approximately eight years old at the start of the story. She comes from a very affluent family; her mother is a renowned interior decorator and her father is a famous film director. Because her parents are frequently occupied with their successful careers, much of her daily care and upbringing is handled by her family's long-time housemaid, Baaya, who serves as a grandmotherly figure to her. This home environment contributes to her feelings of being controlled, as her parents, especially her mother, enroll her in numerous extracurricular activities like violin and ballet. While they are not portrayed as malicious, their strict oversight leaves Emilie feeling she must comply with their wishes rather than pursue her own desires.

Emilie's personality blends gentleness, intelligence, and a deep-seated lack of confidence. She is often regarded as the most academically gifted among her friends and excels in playing the violin, an instrument she has practiced for many years. Unlike the impulsive Doremi, Emilie is calm, patient, and acts as a voice of reason for the group. However, she is also easily frightened, with a well-known and intense fear of ghosts. Despite her generally reserved nature, she demonstrates a quiet stubbornness when it comes to her personal beliefs and can show unexpected assertiveness when faced with injustice.Physically, she is distinguished by her long brown hair usually tied up with an orange bow and a pair of round glasses, making her the only main character who wears eyewear.

Her motivations and role in the story are deeply tied to her personal insecurities. She becomes a witch apprentice alongside Doremi and another friend, Aiko Senoo, after discovering Doremi's secret. A significant part of her personal drive is the hope that magic might help her gain the courage to speak her true feelings to her parents. Throughout the series, she actively participates in all the group's magical endeavors, including managing the MAHO-do shop and, most importantly, helping to raise Hana, a magical baby who is the future candidate for Witch Queen. In caring for Hana, Emilie often adopts a motherly and responsible role, proving to be a patient and nurturing guardian.

Emilie's key relationships are central to her development. Her friendship with Doremi is the anchor of her social world, as Doremi is one of the few people with whom she can initially be herself. She shares a respectful and mature dynamic with Onpu Segawa, and while she is initially worried by Aiko's blunt personality, they grow to become mutually supportive friends. She also forges a meaningful bond with Momoko Asuka, bonding over their shared timidity after overcoming initial friction. A recurring aspect of her personal life is her long-standing romantic feelings for a childhood friend named Masaru Yada, which causes her some distress when she feels their relationship is threatened.

Throughout the series, Emilie undergoes significant character development, learning to become more independent and assertive. A pivotal moment in her growth is finally learning to express her true opinions to her parents, overcoming her fear of hurting them. By the final season, her development culminates in a major decision: choosing to attend a prestigious secondary school focused on her dream of becoming a violinist, even though it means being separated from Doremi. This choice symbolizes her newfound independence while confirming that her friendships will endure. Regarding her magical abilities, Emilie is distinguished as one of the most skilled spellcasters among the initial trio of apprentices. Her magical theme color is orange, and she is accompanied by a gentle fairy partner named Mimi (originally known as Rere in Japanese).
