Description
Katherine McDonald is a character from the anime series Kaze no Stigma. She is a young, beautiful girl with long curly blonde hair, blue eyes, and pale skin, typically wearing a long frilly red dress with a red rose in her hair. Katherine hails from an American family of En-Jutsushi, practitioners skilled in creating and controlling spirit beasts to harness flames. Her family’s unique method involves manipulating myriad spirits into a single virtual persona to grasp tremendous power.
Initially, Katherine comes across as arrogant and cocky about her abilities, often boasting about her family's wealth and prowess. Her primary motivation for traveling to Japan was to defeat Ayano Kannagi, aiming to claim her family's sacred treasure, Enraiha, and assert her status as a superior fire user. However, her first battle with Ayano does not go as expected, leading her to hire the protagonist, Kazuma Yagami, to train her and develop more advanced fighting moves.
During this training, Katherine quickly becomes attracted to Kazuma. She realizes that if she can pay him more than the Kannagi family does, he might be willing to return with her to America, and she frequently tempts him with lucrative offers. This transforms her rivalry with Ayano from purely magical to romantic, as both compete for Kazuma's affection. Despite her initial disdain for Kazuma, whom she once saw as a pathetic wind master, she falls in love with him and is determined to win him over.
In terms of abilities, Katherine is capable of creating different spirit beasts, her favorite being Metatron, an angel-like statue equipped with a sword. Metatron is exceptionally powerful, described as being created from hundreds, if not thousands, of fire spirits and capable of standing shoulder to shoulder with Ayano in combat. Other spirit beasts she uses include Azazel and Wisps. Kazuma has observed that her fighting style, much like Ayano's, relies on simplistic and direct attacks, often lacking complex strategy or tactics.
Following a second defeat by Ayano, Katherine decides to stay in Japan for a while, hoping to convince Kazuma to go with her to America. Later in the series, her character develops a sense of humility, learning to respect her rival Ayano. She eventually assists the police with capturing rogue magic users and becomes an honorary detective.
