Lapis, also known by her original name Tsuoi-rin or Cui Ling, is a character from the anime Kaze no Stigma. She was originally a young woman named Cui Ling, who was Kazuma Yagami's girlfriend during his time in Hong Kong. She was used as a sacrifice in a black magic experiment and was completely consumed, leaving behind only her residual thoughts. From those remnants, the villain Bernhart (also referred to as Rhodes in some sources) created a new artificial being, which he named Lapis. Physically, she appears as a young female with brown hair and purple eyes. Lapis carries a large crystal broadsword, which she wields with great ease, and her swordsmanship is comparable to that of the skilled Ayano Kannagi. Initially, Lapis behaves as a mindless, emotionless doll, following her master's orders without question. However, as the story progresses, it is revealed in episode 21 that she possesses a heart and is capable of feeling emotions, particularly a sadistic pleasure from causing pain to others. Her motivations are driven by her creator's objectives, serving as an antagonist who confronts Kazuma and Ayano. Her key relationship is with her creator, Bernhart, and she also has a tragic connection to Kazuma through her original identity as Cui Ling, whose last thoughts reportedly wished for Kazuma's death. Throughout the series, Lapis undergoes a degree of development as she begins to experience emotions and becomes more than just a puppet. Her notable abilities include superhuman strength, masterful swordplay with her crystal weapon, and the capacity to match experienced fighters like Ayano in direct combat.
