Description
Amu Fannellia is a young woman who begins her journey in the war-torn Pentagona System as a member of a bandit group operating in the wastelands of the planet Koam. Before turning to a life of crime, she was an aspiring actress, a detail that speaks to a desire for a different life beyond the harsh realities of her world. Her initial encounter with the protagonist Daba Myroad and his friend Mirao Kyao is not born of friendship but of opportunity; her bandit gang targeted the pair with the intent of stealing their powerful Heavy Metal mecha, the L-Gaim. However, witnessing Daba's actions firsthand prompts a sudden and complete shift in her allegiances. She immediately defects from the bandits, driven by a powerful and instantaneous romantic attraction to Daba, and chooses to join his cause.

Amu’s personality is defined by a potent combination of fiery passion, unwavering dedication, and pronounced jealousy. Her love for Daba is the central motivating force behind nearly all of her actions, leading her to abandon her former comrades and risk her life in a rebellion against the immortal emperor Oldna Poseidal. This romantic attachment, however, is also the source of her most prominent flaw: a fierce and often volatile rivalry with Gaw Ha Leccee, a skilled former Poseidal officer who also falls in love with Daba. The conflict between Amu and Leccee is a constant source of tension within the group, frequently erupting into arguments and fights that go beyond simply vying for Daba’s affection, touching on their contrasting personalities and approaches to combat. Despite her strong emotions and occasional pettiness in this rivalry, Amu demonstrates considerable personal strength and loyalty. While she may not possess the same natural talent or formal training as Leccee, she more than compensates with sheer hard work and an indomitable will to improve.

Within the narrative, Amu serves as a key member of the small rebellion that forms around Daba. Her role evolves significantly over the course of the series. Initially, she is a passenger with little combat skill, but her dedication to Daba pushes her to become a capable fighter and pilot. As the group acquires more resources and a spaceship, she grows into a position of leadership, eventually becoming the captain of the space shuttle named Turner. Her most notable technical progression is in her piloting ability. When Daba obtains the more advanced L-Gaim Mk-II, Amu takes over as the primary pilot of the original L-Gaim, becoming a vital asset in the rebellion's final battles. Her background as a bandit, while not glamorous, contributes to her practical combat competence and resourcefulness in dangerous situations.

Amu’s key relationships form the core of her character development. Her bond with Daba is the anchor for her entire arc, transforming her from a common criminal into a dedicated soldier for a noble cause. The intense, combative rivalry with Gaw Ha Leccee forces Amu to constantly confront her own insecurities and limitations, pushing her to work harder to prove herself both as a pilot and as a person worthy of Daba's respect. She also forms a camaraderie with the other members of the group, including the fairy Lillith Fuau and the loyal friend Kyao, becoming an integral and trusted part of their found family.

Throughout the story, Amu’s development is a classic journey from an inexperienced, emotionally driven novice to a seasoned and reliable combatant. She starts with little talent and a reckless heart, but through relentless effort and a desire to stand beside the man she loves, she hones her skills as a pilot and leader. Her journey takes her from the dusty wastelands of Koam to the far reaches of the Pentagona System, participating in crucial operations including a devastating assault on Poseidal’s capital, Sveto, on the planet Gastogal. In the final confrontation, she pilots the L-Gaim in direct support of the rebellion's bombardment, fighting alongside her rival Leccee. By the end of the conflict, she has fully transformed from a lovestruck bandit into the dependable captain of the Turner and a pilot trusted to handle one of the most powerful Heavy Metals in the galaxy, solidifying her place as a crucial figure in the fight against Poseidal.
