Description
Noise Marie is an Exorcist belonging to the Tiedoll Unit of the European Branch of the Black Order. He is a tall, dark-skinned man who usually wears the standard Order uniform and at times shaves his head. Nine years before the main events of the story, Marie was permanently blinded during a mission in which the entire rest of his team was killed. Shortly after, he was gravely wounded and slated to become a test subject for the Second Exorcist project, but was rescued and healed by Yu Kanda, whose blood caused a scar shaped like Kanda’s tattoo to form on Marie’s head. Marie carries the influence of these traumatic events throughout his life, but his outlook evolves over time.
Marie’s personality is outwardly reserved and tough. He is not very sociable and tends to keep to himself, yet beneath that exterior he is kind-hearted, deeply loyal, and protective of his comrades. He often serves as a steadying, calming presence for those around him, showing patience and understanding even in frustrating situations. When the Generals considered sacrificing Miranda Lotto to secure an Akuma egg, Marie became extremely agitated and protested loudly, demonstrating the depth of his concern for his friends. His motivations are rooted in his bonds with others; while he once expressed a fatalistic wish to die so that he would no longer have to smell the corpses of fallen comrades, his connection to Kanda and the rest of his unit gave him a renewed will to live and fight.
In the story, Marie serves as a supporting Exorcist within Tiedoll’s group, often working alongside Kanda and the late Daisya Barry. He participates in major conflicts such as the battle at Edo, the Noah’s Ark incident, and the invasion of Black Order headquarters. These strings can ensnare, slash, or bind opponents, and he can play melodies on them that produce paralyzing effects. The Innocence also grants him extremely acute hearing, allowing him to detect very faint or distant sounds. To protect his ears from permanent damage, Marie wears headphones that dampen ambient noise. His primary offensive technique is known as the Verse of the Saint.
