Description
Ophelia is a Claymore warrior who holds the rank of number four within her generation of the Organization's fighters. She is a veteran with considerable field experience, and her long career has made her one of the more dangerous warriors in the ranks. Physically, she is a blonde woman with gray eyes who wears her hair in a single braid draped over one shoulder, with a pronounced widow's peak.

Ophelia is an offensive-type warrior whose signature ability is a sword technique known as rippling. By waving her blade back and forth at great speed, she causes the sword to vibrate and shift unpredictably, which makes it extremely difficult for an opponent to track, block, or dodge. The technique is the source of her chosen title, Rippling Ophelia, though she is also known by the more ominous nickname the Blood-Soaked Warrior.

On the surface, Ophelia appears light-hearted and whimsical, but that impression masks a dangerously unstable and sadistic personality. She is driven by an intense bloodlust and genuinely enjoys killing, especially the hunting and destruction of Awakened Beings. Her enjoyment of violence is so complete that she has no reluctance to kill humans, and she takes care to eliminate witnesses so that the Organization cannot act against her.

Her hatred for Awakened Beings is rooted in a past trauma: an Awakened Being killed her brother. That loss became the foundation of an obsession that defines her entire outlook as a warrior and eventually consumes her sanity.

Her role in the story places her directly in opposition to Clare. When their paths cross, Ophelia becomes fascinated with Clare and subjects her to a prolonged and cruel game. At one point she severs Clare's legs and forces her to attempt to reattach them while she duels the human boy Raki, steadily raising her level of skill so that the boy will eventually be killed. Clare ultimately wounds her, and the combination of that defeat and her unhealed trauma pushes Ophelia past her limits; she loses control and awakens.

Her awakened form is a slender, serpentine creature with light gray skin, green hair, and the golden eyes of a yoma. Blades grow from her back and from the end of her hair, and her elongated arms end in sharp claws. This form grants her enhanced speed, durability, and offensive power while still preserving her agility. In a notable sign of how far her mind has unraveled, her awakened state does not change her personality: she remains psychotic, bloodthirsty, and whimsical. She is convinced that she is still in control of herself, and the only change she notices is a new appetite for human entrails. Believing herself unchanged, she decides to eat Clare and hurls her into a lake in an attempt to drown her. Her rampage ends in her death shortly afterward.

Her arc over the course of her appearance is one of steady descent. A warrior shaped by grief and trained for slaughter, she becomes the very kind of creature she swore to destroy while remaining unable to recognize the truth of what she has become.
