Description
Giru, also referred to by his serial number DB4649T2006RS, is a machine mutant from the anime Dragon Ball GT. He was created by the evil Dr. Myuu on the planet M-2 as part of a line of mechanical beings designed to carry out his plans for conquest. Initially, Giru was programmed with the mission to lure powerful Saiyans back to his home planet. However, due to a memory failure, he forgot his original purpose until much later in the story.

In terms of personality, Giru is characterized by his cowardly nature, often cowering at the first sign of danger and nervously repeating his own name as a vocal tic. Despite this timidity, he possesses a deep-seated and unwavering loyalty to his friends. He consistently proves his bravery when they are in true peril, such as when he attacks the powerful villain Baby to protect Trunks or saves Pan from a giant sand creature. His relationship with Pan is particularly complex and defines much of his character arc. While he considers her his best friend, he is also frequently on the receiving end of her short temper, enduring both verbal and physical abuse that often leaves him fearful of her reactions. Nevertheless, their bond grows profoundly strong over the course of their journey, evolving into a near-inseparable friendship.

Giru’s primary role in the story begins when he is discovered on the planet Imecka by Son Goku, Pan, and Trunks. Near death from energy depletion, he consumes their Dragon Radar to recharge. This act permanently integrates the radar’s functions into his own systems, making him an essential living guide for their quest to locate the Black Star Dragon Balls across the universe. His integrated radar appears as a display on his back, and he can detect the energy signals of the Dragon Balls from vast distances. Despite his small size, he is equipped with a variety of useful tools, including the ability to transform into a spherical shape for flight, a chest-mounted missile launcher, a machine gun, a grappling claw, and a unique acid that can dissolve metal. He also possesses a specialized healing beam capable of reversing the effects of certain metallic transformations inflicted by enemies like General Rilldo.

Throughout the series, Giru undergoes significant development from a suspicious stranger and potential enemy into a trusted and heroic companion. His most notable test of loyalty occurs on the planet M-2, where he pretends to betray Goku and his friends as part of a secret plan devised with Trunks to fool Dr. Myuu, proving that his allegiance lies entirely with his new friends. Giru repeatedly risks his own existence to protect others, a trait that leads to his destruction on three separate occasions. He is first destroyed by Baby Vegeta, then severely damaged by Super 17, and finally killed by the Shadow Dragon, Eis Shenron. On the first two occasions, he is repaired by the skilled Trunks. After his third and seemingly final death, he is granted a permanent new life when he is resurrected by the Eternal Dragon, Shenron, as a reward for his bravery and loyalty.
