TV-Series
Description
Doctor Mu is a Machine Mutant and a primary antagonist in the later portions of the series. A brilliant but deeply ambitious scientific genius, his overarching goal is the total conquest of the universe. He operates from the dark mechanical planet M-2, where he oversees a vast army of Machine Mutants and orchestrates his schemes for galactic domination.

Doctor Mu presents himself as the master creator behind a plan to build the ultimate Machine Mutant. To this end, he constructs powerful enforcers like General Rilldo and hires figures like Dolltaki to help gather the Black Star Dragon Balls. His ultimate creation, however, is a being named Baby, whom Mu intends to use as the cornerstone of his conquest. Despite his cold and frequently unloving demeanor toward his other creations, Mu shows an unusual, though ultimately one-sided, fondness for Baby.

This relationship takes a dramatic turn when the heroes foil his plans on M-2. As Doctor Mu attempts to escape, Baby violently bursts from his body, killing him. In that moment, Baby reveals the true nature of their connection: it was not Doctor Mu who created Baby, but rather Baby, in a parasitic cellular form, who had programmed and manipulated Mu all along. Mu was simply a tool, an elaborate biological machine designed by the Tuffle parasite to facilitate its own rebirth and fulfill its mission of revenge against the Saiyans. This revelation recontextualizes Mu’s entire existence, showing his quest for power was an illusion implanted by his own creation.

After his death, Doctor Mu is sent to Hell, where he encounters another diabolical scientist, Dr. Gero. Despite initial reluctance, Mu agrees to team up with Gero when he realizes they share a common enemy in Goku. Together, they use their combined knowledge of Machine Mutant and Android technology to create a duplicate of Android 17. This Hell Fighter 17 merges with the original Android 17 to form Super 17, a being of immense power. True to his treacherous nature, Mu secretly reprograms Super 17 behind Gero's back, ensuring that the new android only obeys him. When Gero orders Super 17 to attack, Mu confidently has the android turn on and destroy his rival scientist, leaving himself as the sole master of the ultimate weapon.

Doctor Mu’s victory is short-lived, as his arrogance ultimately proves to be his downfall. As Super 17 battles Goku and the other warriors, Android 18 arrives and appeals to her brother’s buried sense of self, causing him to hesitate. Furious that his creation is showing signs of independent will, Doctor Mu shouts commands, ordering Super 17 to destroy Goku and Android 18 to prove he cannot be controlled. This demand backfires completely. Annoyed by Mu’s presumption and refusing to be manipulated by anyone, the rebellious Super 17 turns and destroys Doctor Mu with his own attack.

In terms of personal characteristics, Doctor Mu is a classic mad scientist archetype. He is exceptionally intelligent, possessing a mastery of genetics and robotics that allows him to create life forms of incredible power. He is also supremely arrogant, viewing nearly all other beings as inferior tools to be used and discarded. This pride, combined with a treacherous and manipulative personality, drives him to betray even his allies, like Dr. Gero, to further his own ambition for absolute control. Despite his grand plans, Doctor Mu has very little direct combat ability and relies entirely on his creations and cunning to achieve his goals. His story is defined by the cruel irony of a would-be master who was, in reality, a pawn for two of his own most powerful creations.
