Despite this perpetually youthful look, she has lived for over 1000 years, making her the oldest known character in her series. This vast lifespan fosters a generally mature, cheerful demeanor, positioning her as a mother figure within the inn. She exhibits a neutral to pacifistic nature but can become intimidating when angered.

Her background includes meeting Shigure Ameno at an unspecified time and forming a significant connection with Tsutomu during his childhood. Decades before the main story, Tsutomu promised to marry her when they grew up. However, he aged while she retained her youthful features. Chitose discovered an amnesiac ghost in Room 4 of Yuragi Inn, naming her Yuuna Yunohana.

Chitose possesses the ability to manipulate fortune, granting good luck or misfortune to others. Using this power draws from the target's future luck reserves, inevitably triggering a counter-effect at an unpredictable time. Due to this inherent risk, she rarely employs her abilities. If used on herself, good luck immediately results in bad luck. Her capabilities also include absorbing ambient luck, sensing spirits, and physically interacting with ghosts. In extreme cases, her fortune manipulation can cause large-scale environmental destruction, such as redirecting a meteor toward Earth. Secretly, Chitose attends middle school, an arrangement facilitated by Tsutomu, who is now a school principal.
