Description
Haru, also romanized as Hal, is a supporting character in the anime Texhnolyze. He is a young man who appears to be around twenty years old and is known for his distinctive appearance, which includes a blonde afro and tanned skin. He is affiliated with the underground city of Lux, having once been a member of the faction known as Racan. Physically, he has undergone texhnolyzation, receiving a prosthetic right arm.

In terms of personality, Haru is defined by a deep and complicated emotional conflict. He finds himself in an unusual and painful love triangle with his close friend, Shinji, the leader of Racan, and a woman named Yoko, who is romantically involved with Shinji. While Shinji and Yoko appear to embrace a certain freedom in their relationship, Haru is deeply in love with Yoko. He struggles profoundly with the reality that his feelings are not reciprocated, as Yoko's love belongs to Shinji. This internal turmoil, characterized by jealousy and an inability to accept the situation, ultimately poisons his bonds of friendship. The emotional pain he suffers drives him to a breaking point, where his resentment and hatred for Shinji grow stronger than their former loyalty.

Haru's motivations are primarily personal and tragic, rooted in his desire for Yoko's affection. Unable to reconcile his own emotions with the existing relationship dynamics, he eventually turns on his former friend. This act of betrayal and the consuming nature of his jealousy mark a significant fall from grace. His role in the story is therefore that of a friend and ally who succumbs to his own dark passions. His narrative trajectory serves as a critical example of how personal relationships can corrode and lead to devastating consequences within the brutal world of Lux. His story ends in despair, as he becomes hateful and ultimately transforms into one of the Shapes, the very cyborg soldiers that represent the loss of humanity.

The central relationship in Haru's life is with Shinji, the head of the Racan faction. They are depicted as friends and comrades, operating together in the dangerous political landscape of the city. However, this bond is severely tested and ultimately destroyed by their mutual connection to Yoko. His feelings for Yoko, and his pain at not being loved by her in return, are the primary drivers of his actions. This toxic dynamic highlights the themes of unrequited love and the devastating effects of jealousy. Throughout the series, Haru does not possess any unique or notable abilities beyond his standard texhnolyzed arm, which is a common augmentation in the setting. His character development is not one of growth or redemption but rather a downward spiral, moving from a position of friendship and relative stability to one of isolation, hatred, and monstrous transformation, illustrating how personal pain can completely consume an individual.
