TV-Series
Description
Natsuki Kuga is a 16-year-old student at Fuuka Academy and one of the main protagonists of the series. She is one of the twelve HiME, girls who can summon powerful spiritual-mechanical creatures known as Childs. Her Child is Duran, a wolf-like entity that complements her combat style. Natsuki stands 160 centimeters tall and has long blue hair and green eyes. She is often associated with the element of ice, wolves, and silver.

Her background is defined by a tragic event: her mother, Saeko Kuga, died when Natsuki was young, a death that was the result of a conspiracy connected to the HiME conflict. This loss drives Natsuki’s initial motivation—a desire for revenge against those responsible. She enrolls at Fuuka Academy with the goal of uncovering the truth and gaining the power to confront her enemies.

In terms of personality, Natsuki is serious, rational, and composed, often serving as a sober contrast to the more carefree and emotional Mai Tokiha. Despite her strong and cool exterior, she has a vulnerable side that shows through in moments of embarrassment—she blushes easily when teased about her beauty or her personal hobbies. She has a quick temper and becomes irritated when her preferences are challenged. Quirks include a fondness for mayonnaise, a habit of flicking her hair back with her right hand, and a private collection of lingerie.

Natsuki’s motivations evolve over the course of the story. Initially driven by vengeance and a reluctance to rely on others, she gradually learns to open up and value friendship and collaboration. Her character arc moves from isolation and self-reliance to trust and interdependence.

Her role in the story is that of a key HiME who actively fights Orphans and later confronts the darker secrets behind the HiME system. She is a skilled combatant, wielding a variety of firearms with expert marksmanship, and her connection to ice grants her additional abilities in battle. Duran provides both offensive and defensive support, enhancing her combat capabilities.

Key relationships shape Natsuki’s development. Her closest bond is with Shizuru Fujino, who acts as her confidant and emotional anchor; their dynamic carries an undercurrent of romantic tension. She also has a significant relationship with Mai Tokiha, whose upbeat nature clashes with Natsuki’s rationality but ultimately helps her grow. Through these interactions, Natsuki confronts her emotional barriers, learning to accept help and express her feelings more openly.
