Description
Haruka Suzuhiro is a student at Fuuka Academy and serves as the head of the student council's disciplinary committee, often referred to as the executive committee. Known for her fiery temperament, Haruka is a straightforward, outspoken individual who believes in acting with justice and integrity, often citing "fairness and openness" as her favorite phrase. She hates anything she considers underhanded or a breach of the rules and sees the maintenance of order on campus as her personal mission. This sense of duty fuels her public rivalry with the student council president, Shizuru Fujino. The animosity largely stems from a past election for the presidency where Shizuru won by a landslide, securing 817 votes to Haruka's 12, which remains a source of frustration for the outraged Haruka. To express her disdain, Haruka disrespectfully refers to Shizuru as the "Kyoto tea and rice woman".

Despite her hot-headed exterior and tendency to quickly lose composure, particularly when provoked by Shizuru, Haruka is a deeply loyal and caring person. This is most evident in her relationship with her best friend, Yukino Kikukawa. Haruka is fiercely protective of the quiet and gentle Yukino, often acting as her shield. The bond between them is the most important relationship for both characters, and Haruka's position as Yukino's most important person plays a critical role in the story.

While Haruka Suzuhiro is not a HiME (a person with the power to materialize a Child) in the anime continuity, she possesses extraordinary physical abilities. She displays superhuman strength, capable of fighting against elite soldiers single-handedly or carrying a massive fish without assistance, as well as incredible stamina that allows her to stay awake for days on end with only a curry bun to sustain her. This raw power allows her to stand up to threats far beyond a normal human, despite lacking the supernatural abilities of the HiME.

Her role in the story becomes particularly significant when she and Yukino investigate the mysterious disappearance of Shizuru. Following her sense of justice, Haruka confronts Shizuru directly to express her horror at her actions, even physically striking her. This act of bravery has severe consequences; in retaliation, Shizuru attacks Yukino's Child, Diana, resulting in Haruka's own "death" due to Yukino's grief. In her final moments, Haruka shows her true character by headbutting Shizuru in a last act of defiance and reassuring a devastated Yukino, giving her friend her student badge before vanishing. She is later resurrected by Mashiro Kazahana, reappearing before Yukino in a characteristically comical fashion. By the end of the series, she passes her position on the disciplinary committee to Yukino, though not without making a characteristic spelling error in the official notice.

In the manga adaptation, Haruka's role and abilities are different, as she is portrayed as a HiME. Her Element is a massive hammer, and her Child is a giant, grotesque marine creature named Koumokuten, associated with the deity of knowledge, the Wide-Eyed Heavenly King. In this version, she and Yukino form a perfect combat team where Haruka handles powerful physical attacks while Yukino manages defense, and they are even able to combine their Childs into a single entity capable of firing a destructive laser beam.
