Description
Nao Yuuki is a middle school student at Fuka Academy in the anime My-HiME. She has red hair and green eyes, and she is often associated with spider imagery. Her most notable trait is a morally ambivalent and cruel streak, which she frequently directs at other HiMEs, particularly Natsuki Kuga, whom she enjoys tormenting. She operates under the alias Juliet, luring men she meets online into secluded spots with the promise of companionship, only to trap and rob them with the aid of her Child. This behavior stems from a traumatic childhood: when she was young, a home invasion left her entire family dead except for her mother, who was critically injured and remained hospitalized. The incident orphaned Nao and fostered a deep hatred of men.

Nao’s motivations revolve around self‑preservation and resentment. She distrusts cooperation and initially refuses to join Midori Sugiura’s team of HiMEs, agreeing only reluctantly to combat an external threat. When the rules of the HiME conflict force the girls to battle one another, she abandons the group and declares she will act only for her own interests. Her bitterness deepens after she is blinded in one eye during a confrontation, and she swears revenge against the other HiMEs. She attempts to harm Mai Tokiha’s brother, Takumi, out of jealousy: she sees in Mai a reflection of her own tragic circumstances, but believes Mai is loved while she herself is not. Later, she captures Natsuki and holds her hostage, but Shizuru Fujino destroys Nao’s Child, Julia, in the rescue. The destruction of Julia causes the death of Nao’s mother, the person most important to her, leading Nao to a breakdown.

Nevertheless, Nao experiences a measure of growth. Natsuki, recognizing their shared loneliness, defends her even after being tormented. In the final episode, Nao’s powers are restored by Mashiro, her mother is revived, and she joins the other HiMEs to destroy the HiME Star. After the conflict ends, she becomes a nun at the Fuka Academy church alongside Miyu Greer, an ironic conclusion given her earlier ruthless behavior.

Nao’s abilities as a HiME include twin metal claws with red nails. From these claws she can extend thin, razor‑sharp red strings that she uses to ensnare or cut her opponents. She often licks the claws in a menacing gesture. Her Child, Julia, is a giant half‑human female spider with a scorpion tail. Julia can fire sticky webbing from her chest, strike with her tail, and release a caustic substance. In the manga version of My-HiME, Nao’s role as an antagonist is more pronounced, her Child’s webs are nearly indestructible, and she forcibly obtains a new Key after Julia is defeated.
