Description
Dean Honos is a central character and a member of the Geisters, an elite anti-creature special unit operating directly under the Yuno family. He holds the rank of lieutenant and eventually succeeds Leon Wilters as the unit's commander following Wilters's death in action. As a leader, Dean is portrayed as somewhat introverted and indecisive, with leadership qualities that are initially less developed than those of his predecessor. Despite this, he is a highly skilled combatant, a necessary trait for service in an organization composed solely of the Yuno family's most elite soldiers.
Dean was born to Odion Honos, a member of the Geisters, and Nona Honos, a scientist belonging to the Yuno family. Both of his parents died when he was very young, leaving him with few memories of them. Following their deaths, Colonel Lambert, who had been close to Odion, took on a paternal role in Dean's life. Dean's childhood friends include Alkyon and the former captain, Leon Wilters, though he does not get along well with Alkyon.
Throughout the story, Dean experiences strange phenomena, including frequent nightmares and auditory hallucinations of a mysterious girl. These occurrences are linked to a powerful suit of bio-armor he wears, which is effective against the Siliconian creatures but also strains his mind and body. The source of these hallucinations is eventually revealed to be a girl named Pira, who later guides Dean and his ally Shai Tanna to safety after they are trapped in the Siliconian Forest. It is through Pira that Dean learns a profound truth: Pira is his own half-brother.
Dean's motivations are deeply challenged when he learns from the supposedly deceased Leon that his parents died because of Inanna, a figure he had trusted and followed. This revelation, combined with the truth of Pira's origins, fills Dean with a sense of betrayal and leads him to question his years of service to the Yuno family. He becomes mentally unsettled, grappling with skepticism about his past loyalties. He eventually leaves to find his own father, Odion, who has been transformed into a creature. Despite Odion's monstrous form, he expresses no resentment toward Inanna, which helps calm Dean's inner turmoil. Dean then returns to the battlefield donning his mega suit once more to defend De Beers from an invasion.
Dean's relationships are central to the narrative. He shows considerable care for Shai Tanna, a new member of the Geisters who is also a Shioru. He supports her during a hearing when she is sentenced for disobeying orders and later risks his life to rescue her when she is framed for assassination, tortured, and imprisoned by the Sarakia family. He goes alone to the Sarakia Tower to retrieve her, resulting in his own torture and imprisonment, though they are both eventually freed with outside help. Their bond deepens over time, and Dean later goes into exile with Shai and another comrade, Siol.
In the final battles, Dean is lured to Atlantis Island. After a massive weapon fires and destroys the island, Dean is left mortally wounded. Upon learning of his son's impending death, Odion Honos gives up his own life to revive Dean. As a result of this sacrifice, Dean's mecha suit is upgraded from a mega suit to a gigasuit. He awakens to an overjoyed Shai and participates in the final confrontation with Alkyon. After the crisis is resolved, Dean leaves military service. He starts a family with Shai, and they have a son, whom they name Dion Honos.
