Description
Kou Tenka is a supporting character from the anime adaptation of the series, known as a doushi or immortal-in-training who hails from Kun Lun Mountain. He is the second son of Kou Hiko, a prominent warrior, and inherits his father's upright fighting spirit and skill while possessing his mother's black hair. Identified as one of the Juunisen, he was discovered and recruited as a doushi by the immortal Seikyo Dotoku Shinkun.

In personality, Kou Tenka presents a rough and fiercely independent exterior, often expressing a self-reliant attitude and a strong distaste for losing. He tends to act on impulse and jump to conclusions, yet beneath this brusque demeanor lies a cheerful side and a deep well of loyalty, particularly toward his allies. His speech is marked by the habitual use of the inflection "-sa" at the ends of sentences, and he is almost never seen without a lit cigarette, adding to his distinct, rebellious image.

His primary motivation is rooted in family: a desire to avenge his parents and to surpass his father's formidable legacy. This drive leads him to confront powerful enemies head-on, often with a single-minded intensity. Within the story, he joins the core group of warriors assembled by the protagonist and quickly becomes a valued powerhouse, known for his exceptional close-combat prowess. During the conflict, he faces the tyrant Chuuou, the last emperor of the Yin dynasty, whom he battles in a fierce attempt to settle his personal vendetta. In the original manga, a cursed wound inflicted earlier by one of Chou Koumei's subordinates shortens his life. He manages to defeat Chuuou, but the moment of victory robs him of his resolve; immediately afterward, an unnamed soldier runs him through, and he perishes, becoming one of the souls sealed in the Hoshindai. However, in the 1999 anime adaptation his fate diverges: he is never cursed and survives through the end of the conflict.

His key relationships are with his father, whom he respects and seeks to surpass, and with his master, Seikyo Dotoku Shinkun. Among his fellow warriors, he forges a strong bond with the main protagonist, serving as a reliable and powerful teammate whose combat growth turns him from a promising but reckless fighter into a trusted cornerstone of the group. His brother, Kou Tenshyou, also exists in the series, further anchoring him to the Kou family legacy.

Kou Tenka wields an array of paopei, the sacred weapons of immortals and doushi. His signature armament is Bakuya no Hoken, a lightsaber-like sword that can project slashing energy to extend its reach. He later receives Karyuhyo, a fire-emitting boomerang-like paopei used for ranged attacks, and Sanshintei, a set of small throwing blades that function as miniature lightsabers, easily carried in his pocket. After a major battle, he obtains Bakuya no Hoken 2, an upgraded version with a blade on each end of the hilt, further cementing his reputation as a close-quarters powerhouse with both cutting power and versatility.
