Description
Kou Tenka is a Doushi, a type of spiritual warrior, and a disciple from the sacred mountain of Konron. He is the second son of Kou Hiko, inheriting his father's noble spirit and exceptional combat skills, while his black hair comes from his mother, Kashi. Discovered and recruited by Seikyo Dotoku Shinkun, one of the powerful Juunisen, Tenka is a notable figure in the conflicts that drive the story's events. He is frequently seen with a cigarette and has a distinct speech pattern, often ending his sentences with the suffix "sa."

In terms of personality, Tenka is defined by absolute self-confidence, particularly in close-quarters combat. He possesses a strong warrior's spirit and is fiercely competitive, harboring a deep-seated hatred for losing. This drive is coupled with a rough attitude and a tendency to act impulsively, sometimes jumping to conclusions without fully assessing a situation. These traits make him a formidable and aggressive fighter, always eager to prove his prowess on the battlefield.

Tenka's motivations are deeply rooted in his family's legacy and personal vendettas. He is driven by a desire to surpass his father and to avenge his parents, a goal that brings him into direct conflict with an enemy named Chuuou. A significant burden he carries is a cursed wound inflicted by one of Chou Koumei's demon sennin followers, an injury that tragically shortens his lifespan. This curse adds a layer of urgency and tragedy to his quest, heightening the stakes of his battles.

Throughout the story, Tenka plays the role of a powerful ally and a fierce combatant. His key relationships include his master, Seikyo Dotoku Shinkun, who guides his training and bestows upon him new weapons. He also shares a strong, if not explicitly detailed, bond with his father, Kou Hiko, whose legacy he strives to live up to. His character undergoes a notable arc, particularly in the original manga, where his intense drive for revenge comes to a critical point. Upon finally defeating his target, Chuuou, he loses his resolve, leaving him vulnerable. In a tragic turn, a nameless soldier immediately kills him. This grim fate is specific to the manga adaptation, as in the 1999 anime version, he avoids the cursed wound and survives, even having a potential love interest, showcasing a significantly different and more hopeful development.

Tenka is proficient with a variety of paopei, which are mystical treasures or weapons. His primary weapon is the Bakuya no Hoken, a lightsaber-like sword. Later, he gains the Karyuhyo, a boomerang-like weapon that can emit fire, and the Sanshintei, which are small, lightsaber-like projectiles. After a battle at Kingou, his master also entrusts him with the Bakuya no Hoken 2, an upgraded version of his sword featuring blades on both sides of the handle, further enhancing his deadly capabilities in combat.
