Description
Hailing from Birdstar as one of its universal peacekeeping Supermen, this hero adopts the name Birdman. His mission involves recruiting and mentoring Earth's youths as Permans, granting superhero identities to Mitsuo Suwa (Perman 1), chimpanzee Booby (Perman 2), child actress Sumire Hoshino (Perman 3/Perko), and Hozen Oyama (Perman 4/Peryan). He equips each Perman with specialized gear: a helmet boosting physical and mental prowess while hiding identities, a cape enabling flight and super-speed, and a badge supplying breathable air and communication. A non-negotiable rule forbids revealing secret identities, punishable by animal transformation.

Birdman's distinct visual identity features a black helmet with a beak-like front and golden wing accents, a red cape fastened by yellow shoulder pins, a gray bodysuit displaying a red "B" emblem, white gloves, and black briefs worn over the suit—deliberately differing from DC Comics' Superman. Beyond recruitment, he monitors Permans' activities, intervenes in critical missions, and offers guidance, emphasizing inclusivity through Booby's selection to prove heroism transcends humanity. He designates Mitsuo as his successor, sending him to Bird Planet for training while a copy robot maintains Mitsuo's secret identity on Earth.

Birdman's role as mentor and galactic guardian remains consistent across appearances, including direct involvement in the Permans' adventures in the 1983 short film "Perman: Birdman ga Yatte Kita!!".
