Description
Edelgard Rivera, often called Edel by her colleagues, is a contract worker who handles secretarial and clerical duties for the Debris Section of the Technora Corporation on the ISPV 7 space station. She is a young woman of German nationality who maintains a quiet, professional, and serious demeanor in the workplace, which initially makes her seem distant and mysterious to those around her. This reserved exterior, however, conceals a dark and troubled past that she is determined to leave behind.

Her primary motivation is to achieve a life of independence, and her temporary position in the Debris Section is a strategic step towards completing her studies and securing a stable future. Her personal history is dramatically revealed when an old acquaintance named Sasha arrives at the station. It is uncovered that Sasha is her formerly abusive ex-husband, and his sudden appearance forces Edel to confront the trauma she has been trying to escape. In a moment of intense crisis, she threatens him with a weapon, showcasing the deep fear and unresolved pain beneath her calm surface. The situation is only resolved with the intervention of her co-workers and the arrest of Sasha by the Orbital Security Agency.

Within the Debris Section, Edel maintains a functional but distant relationship with her coworkers. Her quiet efficiency does not go unnoticed, and the rough-around-the-edges crew member Gigalt gives her the nickname “Hourglass,” a rare acknowledgment of her presence. Unlike the more boisterous and passionate debris collectors, Edel represents the more grounded, bureaucratic reality of space life, providing a contrast with her focus on clerical order. Her role in the story is primarily supportive in the day-to-day operations, but she serves as the focus of a significant subplot dealing with themes of personal trauma and the search for a new beginning.

Throughout her time in the section, Edel demonstrates notable personal development. She transitions from being a guarded, temporary employee merely passing through to someone who makes a definitive choice about her future. After her contract with the Debris Section ends, she decides to stay with the Technora Corporation as a regular, full-time employee in the General Affairs section. This decision marks a major turning point, symbolizing her decision to stop running from her past and to actively build a new, stable life for herself. Aside from her clerical efficiency and hidden resilience, she has a more personal side, as she enjoys collecting small accessories, including plush toys of the company mascot, Nora-kun.
