Description
Black Andromeda is a fictional character from the manga and anime series Saint Seiya, serving as a minor antagonist during the Galaxian Wars arc. He is one of the four most powerful members of the Black Saints, a group of renegade warriors who use their power for evil, and is known as the dark counterpart to Shun, the Bronze Saint of the Andromeda Constellation. His background is rooted in the treacherous training grounds of Death Queen Island, a place infamous for producing ruthless warriors. Like all Black Saints, he was trained there by an unknown master, and his inherent cruelty made him a perfect candidate to wield the Black Andromeda Cloth.

In terms of personal description, Black Andromeda is a fourteen-year-old male with specific physical statistics: he stands 170 centimeters tall and weighs 58 kilograms. He was born on October 4th, making his zodiac sign Libra, and his blood type is B. His place of birth is Turkey. His personality is defined by sadism and arrogance. He derives great pleasure from torturing his opponents, a trait that sets him apart from some of his comrades. Unlike his counterpart Shun, who is gentle and reluctant to fight, Black Andromeda is aggressive, cunning, and utterly merciless, showing no hesitation to attack from ambush or exploit a vulnerable enemy.

His primary motivation is loyalty to his leader and a desire to prove his strength through cruelty. Initially, he serves a Black Saint leader named Jango, but after Jango is easily defeated by Phoenix Ikki, Black Andromeda and the other Black Saints immediately transfer their allegiance to the stronger warrior. Under Ikki's command, his role in the story becomes that of a guardian. During the conflict with the legitimate Bronze Saints, Ikki steals the Sagittarius Gold Cloth, and Black Andromeda is entrusted with protecting a piece of it, specifically the abdomen section. He later participates in a decisive battle at Mount Fuji, where the Black Saints challenge the Bronze Saints for possession of the entire Gold Cloth.

His most significant role and key relationship is with his counterpart, Shun of Andromeda. During the battle at Mount Fuji, Black Andromeda attacks Shun while the Bronze Saint is trying to rescue his fallen friend, Pegasus Seiya, from a cliff. He uses the situation to torment Shun psychologically, questioning why he would bother saving a man who is already as good as dead. This confrontation highlights his opportunistic and sadistic nature. His other key relationship is with his leader, Ikki, to whom he shows complete subservience after witnessing his power. He also operates alongside the other members of the Black Four: Black Pegasus, Black Dragon, and Black Swan.

The character's development is minimal but serves a crucial narrative purpose. He acts as a dark mirror to Shun, forcing the gentle Bronze Saint to confront a version of himself that has none of his compassion. The fight with Black Andromeda is a pivotal moment for Shun, as it is one of the first times he unleashes the full, lethal power of his Nebula Chain without holding back. Initially, Shun is incapacitated by Black Andromeda's attack because he refuses to let go of Seiya, but when Seiya sacrifices himself by cutting the chain, Shun is enraged. In this fury, he stops hesitating and destroys Black Andromeda with a single, devastating strike of his own chain, showing that even the kindest warrior has a limit.

Regarding his notable abilities, as a Black Saint, Black Andromeda has complete mastery of his Cosmo, the inner energy used by all Saints. His fighting style revolves around his signature weapon, the Black Chain. Unlike Shun's Nebula Chain, which serves both offensive and defensive purposes, Black Andromeda uses his chain in a uniquely brutal fashion for his primary technique, the Black Fang Nebula. This attack transforms his black chain into a mass of writhing, bloodthirsty serpents. These snakes wrap around the victim, strangling them and slowly sucking their blood while depriving them of their five senses. This technique is the perfect expression of his personality: slow, agonizing, and meant to maximize suffering. Despite its fearsome appearance, the technique is vulnerable; once the chain is broken, the snakes disappear and the attack is nullified. This vulnerability ultimately leads to his demise at the hands of Shun's more powerful and righteous Nebula Chain.
