Description
Choji Suitengu is the primary antagonist of the story, a figure of immense wealth and control who operates as the president of the Tennozu Group's Roppongi Development division. His real name is Ueno Takeshi, a fact that points to a past he has long since abandoned. Despite his powerful public persona, he largely remains in the shadows, managing the unsavory operations of the Tennozu Group and acting as the right-hand man to its president, Shinsen Tennozu. To serve the dark desires of the political and business elite, he established and manages the secret Roppongi Club, an underground gathering where the powerful indulge their most depraved fetishes in exchange for mutual loyalty.
On the surface, Suitengu appears as a cold-blooded and thoroughly hedonistic figure. He is always seen in a fine coat and gloves, carrying a small music box and expensive cigarettes, often changing his luxury cars to suit his mood. His demeanor is that of a calm and collected mastermind who will use any means necessary to achieve his goals. However, this persona masks a deep, seething hatred for wealth, greed, and the corrupt system of power that destroyed his life. His primary motivation is not mere control or profit, but a grand, meticulously planned act of revenge against Japanese society itself. He seeks to cause a complete economic collapse, intending to erase massive amounts of money from the global market as retribution for the suffering inflicted upon him and his family.
Suitengu's past is one of utter tragedy. Born into a wealthy family, his parents fell into debt with the predecessors of the Tennozu Group and were murdered. He and his younger sister, Yui, were torn apart; he was sold as a child soldier at the age of thirteen, while his five-year-old sister was sold into sexual slavery. For seven years, he was forced to kill on battlefields around the world, told that each act of violence reduced his parents’ debt. On his final mission, he was sent to destroy a biological research facility, where he was caught in an explosion that left him severely wounded and dismembered. It was there that he was infected with the Euphoria virus, which granted him his extraordinary powers. Scientists retrieved his broken body and repaired him, turning him into what he is. After escaping, he eventually found his sister, but she was a broken, mentally shattered woman forced into prostitution. In a moment of mercy, he killed her to end her suffering. The only memento he keeps of her is the small music box she had as a child, which became his most treasured possession.
His role in the story is as the central force of corruption and the final obstacle for the protagonist, Tatsumi Saiga. While he publicly uses Kagura Tennozu, the young "goddess" of the Roppongi Club, to grant euphoric powers to members, his private plan is to marry her to gain legal control of the Tennozu Group after murdering her mother. This act of brutality sets the final conflict in motion. Despite his villainy, Suitengu shares a strange and profound connection with Saiga. Years earlier on the battlefield, the two were buried alive together in a landslide. Suitengu, unable to see Saiga's face, played his sister's music box to give them both the will to survive. This shared trauma creates a sense of mutual recognition and a twisted respect between them, ultimately leading Suitengu to spare Saiga's life during their final confrontation, repaying a debt from the past.
Suitengu shows moments of surprising loyalty to his own subordinates, rewarding them before his final plan and accepting their choice to stay by his side. His development reveals a man who, despite his monstrous actions, is driven by a desire to punish those who devalue human life for money, though the innocence lost in his own past is something he can never reclaim.
Choji Suitengu is a Euphoric, granting him the power to manipulate his own blood at will. This ability is incredibly versatile and powerful, allowing him to form the blood into weapons such as sharp projectiles fired like bullets or even solid constructs like wings that enable him to fly. He has demonstrated that his hardened blood is sharp and dense enough to cut through diamond, making him a formidable combatant and the most powerful Euphoric in the series. His final act is to trigger a global financial crisis known as the Roppongi Crisis, destroying over 40 trillion dollars' worth of value in a catastrophic act of revenge before his apparent death in the explosion of the Tennozu Building. It should be noted that the manga adaptation presents a version of Suitengu with reduced charisma and capabilities, and his plans are ultimately foiled before they can fully come to fruition.
