TV-Series
Description
Ekoda is a supporting antagonist in the anime Speed Grapher. He holds the position of Police Chief within the series' setting, making him a figure of institutional authority. Visually, he is an adult male with gray eyes and short gray hair.
Ekoda is deeply corrupt and sadistic, having been fully co-opted by the depraved culture of the secretive club that controls much of the city's power. His personality is defined by a grotesque obsession with amputation. In one particularly stark display of his character, Ekoda is shown preparing to use a chainsaw to sever the legs of a bound captive, a young woman named Ginza. This act is not one of professional duty but a perverse ritual for his private collection. The full extent of his derangement is revealed when it is disclosed that his collection of severed legs already includes those belonging to his own wife and daughter. This act demonstrates the complete moral decay and lack of humanity that defines his character.
His primary role in the story is as an antagonist, specifically as an obstacle to the protagonists, including the former war photographer Saiga and the captive girl, Kagura Tennozu, who is known as Ginza. Key relationships are defined by violence and victimization; his connection to Ginza is that of a predator to his intended prey. The narrative does not provide significant development for Ekoda beyond reinforcing his role as a monstrous agent of the corrupt status quo. His notable abilities are not supernatural but derive from his positional power as Police Chief, which he abuses to enable his atrocities without legal consequence.
