Description
Lala González is a Mexican exchange student who transfers to Yagami High School and becomes a supporting character in School Rumble. She grew up primarily with her father, a luchador who taught her the art of Lucha Libre, while her mother, also named Karen, abandoned the family when Lala was young. This personal history shapes her motivations and reactions throughout the story. Lala is physically imposing for a high school student: tall, with a well-endowed build, dark skin, and long black hair often tied back in a ponytail. Her demeanor is consistently sour-faced, hot-tempered, and easily provoked, making her a direct opposite to her rival, Karen Ichijou. She joins the school’s amateur wrestling club and immediately targets Ichijou as her primary rival, frequently shouting Ichijou’s name whenever they meet. The reason for her hostility is that Ichijou shares her first name, Karen, which triggers painful memories of the mother who left her. Lala works at the same fast food restaurant as Ichijou, but her violent temper drives customers away from her counter; she even physically drags bothersome customers inside to beat them. She harbors a deep dislike for Kyousuke Imadori, whom she views as a pervert, and responds to his advances or provocations by beating him senseless. Despite her rough exterior, Lala does form meaningful connections: her closest friends are Harry Mackenzie and Masakazu Tougou, who look out for her, and over the course of the series her animosity toward Ichijou gradually softens until the two develop a genuine friendship. She also possesses a hidden desire to be seen as more feminine, which occasionally surfaces. In terms of abilities, Lala is a highly skilled Lucha Libre practitioner, making her one of the strongest fighters in the school, second only to Ichijou in the wrestling club. Her role in the narrative is primarily as a comic foil and rival, providing physical comedy through her confrontations and her unexpectedly gentle moments with her friends.
