Description
Danny Boy is a mamodo who appears in a single episode of the anime. He is partnered with an elderly man named Mr. Goldo, who acts as his bookkeeper. Danny is a young mamodo with a youthful appearance, characterized by his white hair and black eyes. He is sensitive about being perceived as a child, and he openly dislikes it when Mr. Goldo calls him "Danny Boy," insisting that he is not a boy. Despite this, Mr. Goldo continues to use the nickname, framing it as a matter of respecting his elders.

At the start of his appearance, Danny comes across as somewhat irritable and dismissive, but he is not malevolent. He initially mistakes Zatch for an enemy mamodo seeking to burn his spell book, but he quickly stands down when he understands Zatch's true, non-confrontational intention is simply to see a famous statue. His primary motivation is to carry out his job of protecting the Shemira statue under Mr. Goldo's direction. While he does not personally understand the statue's cultural importance, he follows orders and takes his protective duty seriously.

Danny's role in the story is that of an ally to Zatch and Kiyo. After the statue is stolen by a gang of thieves, he, along with Zatch and Mr. Goldo, tracks them to the docks. He demonstrates a strong sense of responsibility, telling Zatch that he will protect both him and Mr. Goldo with his spell. During the fight against the gangsters, Danny proves to be a capable fighter, physically knocking out multiple opponents despite taking gunfire himself. His key relationship is with his partner, Mr. Goldo. Their dynamic is a traditional one of master and servant, with Mr. Goldo giving orders and Danny carrying them out, albeit with some grumbling about being patronized.

The character experiences significant development in his final moments. After the thieves are apprehended, the gang leader crashes a tanker truck into the car that holds both the Shemira statue and Danny's spell book. Danny holds up the massive truck to prevent it from destroying the statue, knowing that his book is inside and will be destroyed if Zatch uses his lightning spell to obliterate the truck. In a moment of self-sacrifice, he instructs Zatch to proceed. Before Danny vanishes, Mr. Goldo finally addresses him simply as "Danny" and praises him for a job well done, a moment of respect that Danny had been seeking, causing him to sob with happiness as he disappears.

In terms of notable abilities, Danny is shown to possess significant physical strength and durability, enough to hold up a large truck and withstand gunfire. His primary spell, cast by Mr. Goldo, is Jioruku (or Jioruk), a powerful healing spell that instantly mends any wounds Danny receives, making him nearly invincible in a physical confrontation as long as his book remains safe. This combination of brute force and regenerative capability defines his fighting style.
