Description
Prof. Takamine, whose full name is Seitaro Takamine, is the father of Kiyo Takamine and the husband of Hana Takamine. He works as a professor at a university in England, where he teaches archaeology, and he spends most of his professional life there, away from the family home in Japan. Because of this, he is a somewhat distant figure in Kiyo's daily life, though his concern for his son remains strong. His most important action in the story takes place during a trip to England, when he finds a young boy named Zatch collapsed and wounded in a forest. The boy is suffering from amnesia and has no memory of his past, and near him is a mysterious red book. Prof. Takamine rescues the boy and decides to send him to Japan to live with Kiyo.
His decision is driven by his worries about his son's behavior. Kiyo is an extraordinarily intelligent teenager with an IQ above 180, but his brilliance has made him arrogant and isolated. He has no real friends, looks down on those around him, and regularly skips school. Prof. Takamine hopes that taking care of the cheerful and innocent Zatch will teach Kiyo to open up to others and break his bad habits. Zatch, grateful to the professor for saving his life, agrees to go and help Kiyo as a way of repaying that debt.
