Description
Florette Havenhait, often called by her alias Fiole or simply Fiore, is a supporting character in Chrono Crusade. She appears to be around fifteen years old and is known for liking cooking. Fiole serves as the primary guardian and caretaker for Joshua, a significant member of the antagonist Aion's group. She has looked after him since he joined the Sinner group as a young boy. Her role within this group is special, and she is depicted as a powerful jewel summoner, a type of magical practitioner.
On the surface, Fiole presents a persona that is quiet, peaceful, and seemingly cold or emotionless. However, beneath this exterior lies a sweet, caring, and motherly individual who is deeply protective of those she cares for. She is an excellent cook and a capable maid who enjoys taking care of everyone around her. She is also a fearless fighter when the situation demands it. Her devotion to Joshua is profound, and the two share mutual feelings that go beyond simple sibling love. Her primary motivation is to serve and protect Joshua, a purpose instilled in her by Aion.
The central tragedy of Fiole's character is the revelation of her true background. She is, in fact, the missing older sister of Satella Harvenheit, another jewel summoner in the story. Originally named Florette, she was kidnapped by the demon Aion, who then erased her original personality and replaced it with the identity of "Fiole". In this altered state, she has no memory of her past life or her relationship with Satella. Fiole even refers to herself as a doll fashioned by Aion from Florette's lifeless body, claiming her heart is a cold, hardened jewel rather than flesh. She believes that as long as she maintains this state, she can endure forever as Joshua's sister.
This conflict drives her most significant role in the story, which is a tragic confrontation with her biological sister, Satella. In their final battle, Fiole ruthlessly attacks Satella, fully believing herself to be nothing more than a shadow or remnant of the original Florette. It is only at the moment of her death that fragments of her true memories return, and she finally recognizes Satella as her sister. Her abilities as a jewel summoner are formidable, making her a powerful adversary in combat, and her entire storyline is a poignant exploration of lost identity and familial bonds.
