Description
Hailing from the Parade Planet as a Parade Alien, on-chan arrived on Earth to become the mascot character for Hokkaido Television Broadcasting (HTB) starting December 1, 1997. Physically, on-chan takes the form of a crushed yellow sphere with simple limbs and a mouth, featuring eyes distinctively shaped like the letter "o" on the right and "n" on the left, sometimes adorned with a small hat. The vibrant yellow hue conveys energy and cuteness, while the design evolved from rigid oval origins into softer, more expressive forms to enhance approachability and familiarity.

This character embodies a curious and positive personality, actively seeking exciting experiences and friendships. These traits align with the name's connotations of "Switch on!" and "On Parade!", reflecting an enthusiastic and adventurous spirit.

Within animated media, on-chan starred in the 2003 feature film "on-chan Yume Power Dai-Boken" (on-chan's Great Dream-Powered Adventure), extending the narrative beyond television mascot duties. The first television anime season, airing in 2008, concluded with on-chan and friends departing Ponpiko Town for the sky. Premiering November 9, 2010, the second season continues these journeys, focusing on adventures across newly discovered islands while maintaining core themes of exploration and friendship.

Sustaining popularity since 1997, on-chan enjoys long-term presence through merchandise, public events like appearances at the Sapporo Snow Festival, and consistent media adaptations. National recognition grew following features in nationally broadcast programming.
