Description
Corniot, known in Japanese as Jinmenken, is a Yo-kai recognized by his unsettling yet peculiar appearance. He takes the form of a brown poodle with a human face, a detail that is the source of most of his social struggles. He typically wears a pair of glasses and has a small green tuft on his head, as well as a green tail. His eyes are partially closed, giving him a perpetually downcast or tired expression, and he has dull red markings around them. He is a Fire-attribute Yo-kai and belongs to the Sinister (Mononoke in Yo-kai Watch 4) tribe, initially being an E-rank Yo-kai.

Corniot's personality is heavily defined by his tragic and somewhat absurd origin. In his past life, he was a human office worker who was fired from his job. In a state of despair, he went to drink oden at a street stall and, while intoxicated on his way home, began dancing in the street. His reckless dancing led him to crash into a stack of wooden boards at the exact moment a brown poodle was passing by. The boards collapsed, crushing both of them and fusing their spirits into a single Yo-kai: Corniot.

This origin explains his core motivation and perpetual sadness. He deeply desires to have an owner or a mistress, but his human face frightens people away, leaving him lonely and rejected. This sadness is often played for comedic effect, but it underpins most of his actions. He consistently searches for a new purpose or profession, aspiring to things like becoming a company president or a pastry chef, a recurring theme in his anime appearances where he is often shown seeking a new career or trying to escape his unfortunate circumstances. He also has a noted interest in women's figures, adding another layer to his forlorn character.

In the story, Corniot is first encountered by the protagonist Nathan and his Yo-kai butler Whisper as a rumored monster. He is introduced as a depressed figure who is ultimately arrested by the police for frightening people. He manages to give Nathan his medal before being taken away. Later in the same episode, Nathan summons him to fight a bully Yo-kai named Loubarbare. Corniot is initially reluctant but, with encouragement, engages in a fight that ends in a draw, after which the two become friends. This friendship marks his most significant relationship. Despite this bond, his luck rarely changes, and it is implied he ended up back in prison after the incident. His struggle continues throughout the series, with other episodes showing him attempting to escape from prison with an unlikely ally or continuing his search for a fulfilling job.

Corniot possesses several notable abilities. His primary method of attack is a biting move called Mâchouille (Scratch). He can also use Fire-type techniques. His soultimate move, Grand caninvore, involves him frantically biting all nearby enemies, which is described as being quite frightening. He can also cause confusion in his opponents. His talent is Paradis cynophile, which boosts the stats of any ally with the same talent when placed next to him. However, his most unique and signature ability is his power to transform people into human-faced dogs simply by biting them. In the video games, Corniot evolves into a more powerful form called Bicorniot starting from Yo-kai Watch 2, achieved by reaching level 22.
