TV-Series
Description
Kyubi is a nine-tailed fox Yo-kai of the Mysterious tribe, classified as S-rank with a Fire attribute. In later installments such as Yo-kai Watch 4, he is reassigned to the Mononoke tribe. He stands roughly twice the height of an average human, covered in thick golden fur with a white belly and paws, and has a human form that wears a sleeveless purple sweater vest over a white long-sleeved shirt. His name and design draw from the legendary nine-tailed fox of Japanese folklore.

In the anime, Kyubi first appears in the episode Kyubi: Operation Heartbreak. His personality is self-centered and vain, and his primary motivation is to make beautiful women fall in love with him so he can take their hearts. He aims to collect one thousand hearts in order to be promoted to Senior Fox. Despite this superficial goal, he is occasionally shown helping others, such as when he saved Manjimutt from a Wicked servant during the final battle against Dame Dedtime in the first Yo-kai Watch movie. He also appears as a supporting character in Yo-kai Watch Shadowside the Movie: The Return of the Oni King, where he is summoned to aid in the fight against Cole.

Kyubi's role in the overarching story varies between the games and the anime. In the games, he is a powerful Yo-kai that the player can befriend and recruit, often through a post-game quest. He is required as one of the Yo-kai needed to unlock other legendary Yo-kai, such as Komashura in the first game and Poofessor in Yo-kai Watch 2. In the anime, he is a recurring antagonist turned occasional ally, often clashing with Nate but also siding with him when larger threats emerge. He has a notable rivalry with other Yo-kai, though specific relationship details are limited in the available information.

Developmentally, Kyubi has an Awoken form called Kyubi Awoken, introduced in Yo-kai Watch: Wibble Wobble, which is a rank SS version of the character. He also has a Shadowside variant that appears thirty years after the original series, belonging to the Mononoke tribe.

His notable abilities include the Sense of Smell skill, which ensures his attacks never miss. His signature Soultimate Move is Inferno, which creates a massive fireball that burns enemies to ashes. He can also use Tail Slap and the technique Incinerate. His Inspirit is Burn, which sets a foe on fire and steadily drains its HP. In the games, his power is described as being greater than that of a volcanic eruption. He is also capable of taking on a human disguise.
