Description
Lady Integra Wingates Hellsing is the head of the Hellsing Organization and the last surviving descendant of the Hellsing family, a lineage that traces back to the legendary vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing. As a child, she was raised and educated specifically to one day take command of the family's secret operations. At only twelve years old, she inherited the leadership of the organization following her father's death. Almost immediately, her treacherous uncle Richard attempted to murder her to claim the family inheritance for himself. Forced to flee into the mansion's dungeons, Integra found not the knight in shining armor she had hoped for, but a desiccated corpse imprisoned in a cell. After her uncle shot her, her blood spilled across the floor and revived the captive, who turned out to be the vampire Alucard. The creature saved her life, and she personally shot and killed her uncle, cementing her position as the new head of the Hellsing family and the master of Alucard.

Integra possesses a calm, collected, and business-like demeanor, rarely allowing her emotions to show on the surface. She handles terrifying situations with controlled ease and conducts herself with a commanding presence that can intimidate both humans and monsters alike. Despite her cold and detached exterior, she cares deeply for the lives of her men and has vowed revenge on those who have slaughtered them. She is profoundly patriotic and loyal to the British Crown and the Anglican Church, viewing the Hellsing family as being on a mission from God. Failure is not tolerated, especially her own, and she runs the organization with unwavering charisma and a sense of duty. While typically stoic, she can be prone to bouts of fierce anger, particularly when her orders are questioned. She also has a hidden capacity for humor and can be surprisingly flustered in certain personal interactions. Above all, Integra is fearless, a trait she has possessed since childhood, allowing her to stand up to Nazi vampires, the monstrous priest Alexander Anderson, and even the overwhelming force of her own servant, Alucard.

Integra's primary motivation is her solemn duty to protect the United Kingdom from supernatural threats. Her role is that of the Bureau Director of the Hellsing Organization, a secret agency that operates with the knowledge of the Queen and the Round Table. As the master of Alucard, she commands the organization's most powerful weapon, giving him the orders to search and destroy their enemies. She is the central commanding figure who devises strategies, leads her troops, and makes the ruthless judgments necessary for their mission. Her position requires her to possess immense mental strength to carry out her duty to its fullest, even when it involves issuing painful orders, such as commanding Alucard to kill a traitorous ally.

Her key relationships define much of her journey. The most central is her complex bond with Alucard, which is a master-servant relationship built on a deep, almost twisted, connection. She is the only human he will obey, and she is the only one who can release the final seals on his power. Despite his servitude, Alucard respects her will and protects her honor, and over the years, he has helped her grow into a leader worthy of his service. She shares a close and trusted bond with the family butler, Walter C. Dornez, who was a dear and supportive figure from her childhood. His eventual betrayal and transformation into a vampire is a source of genuine pain for her. Her relationship with Seras Victoria, Alucard's fledgling, starts coldly but develops over time into a close companionship, and after a thirty-year time skip, the two have grown considerably close as they await Alucard's return.

Integra undergoes significant character development throughout the story. As a child, she was more timid and willful, but after awakening Alucard and taking control of her destiny, she grew more confident and comfortable in her role. The escalating war against the Millennium organization forces her to lose her remaining innocence and transform into an iron-willed leader who does not flinch in the face of danger. She gains wisdom through dire losses and betrayals, ultimately becoming the most dangerous enemy to the Major, who commands the Millennium forces. In the final conflict, she loses her left eye but survives. Three decades later, her personality has relaxed somewhat, and she has accepted that her family-run agency's time may be limited, but her commanding presence and resolve remain undiminished.

Despite being human, Integra possesses notable abilities that make her a formidable opponent. She is a superb fencer with quick reflexes, capable of blocking an attack from Alexander Anderson and beheading a Nazi vampire in close combat. Her marksmanship is exceptional; she can shatter moving blessed bayonets with a pistol and shoot with almost superhuman accuracy. She is highly intelligent and a keen strategist, able to predict enemy movements and correctly decipher cryptic clues. While she may not have overt magical abilities, her education in the family's secrets has given her knowledge of the occult and alchemy, and her greatest weapon is her indomitable will and a menacing presence that can cow even her enemies into submission.
