Description
Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing serves as the head of the Hellsing Organization and the current master of the powerful vampire Alucard. She holds the title of Sir as a member of the Royal Order of Protestant Knights and the Round Table Council, tasked with protecting the United Kingdom and the Anglican Church from supernatural threats.

Born into the prestigious Hellsing family, Integra is the last of her bloodline following the death of her father, Sir Arthur Hellsing. Her childhood was far from ordinary, as she was privately educated in the family's mansion to one day take her place as the leader of the organization rather than attending public school. When she was approximately twelve years old, her father passed away from illness and entrusted the family mission to her, asking his brother Richard to assist her. Almost immediately after Arthur's death, her treacherous uncle Richard attempted to kill her to claim the family headship for himself. Forced to flee through the mansion, Integra followed her father's advice to seek salvation in the dungeons below. There, she discovered a dried corpse in restraints, which she initially believed was nothing of value.

When Richard cornered her and shot her shoulder, her blood splattered across the floor and was licked by the vampire imprisoned in the dungeon. The creature, whom Arthur had captured twenty years earlier, awoke rejuvenated and killed Richard's men, then allowed Integra to shoot her uncle herself. The vampire introduced himself as Alucard and swore loyalty to her as his master. This traumatic event forced Integra to mature rapidly, transforming a somewhat timid but willful girl into the iron-willed leader she would become.

As an adult, Integra is approximately twenty-two years old during the main events of the story, with platinum blonde hair, blue eyes, and skin that appears darker than many other characters, suggesting possible mixed heritage. She typically dresses in masculine business attire, including black slacks, a double-breasted jacket, a white dress shirt with a high collar, and a red ascot pinned with a silver cross. She is seldom seen without her distinctive glasses and has a habit of smoking small cigars.

Integra's personality is defined by remarkable composure and a cool, business-like demeanor that rarely allows emotions to interfere with her duties. She handles situations that would terrify most people with controlled ease. She is patriotic, deeply loyal to the crown, and values her mission to protect England above everything else. For her, failure is not tolerated, especially her own. However, she is not cold-hearted; she cares deeply for the lives of her men and has been known to show genuine pain when ordering the deaths of subordinates transformed into ghouls or when dealing with Walter's betrayal. While usually calm, she is sometimes prone to fits of anger, particularly when Alucard questions her orders or when dealing with enemies who insult her or her organization.

Her motivations are rooted in duty, patriotism, and the legacy of her family. She views the Hellsing family as being on a mission from God to protect the innocent from the undead. She fights not for personal glory but because she believes it is her responsibility as the last Hellsing. As the story progresses, the Millennium organization's war against England forces her to confront the full scale of evil in the world, and her resolve only strengthens rather than breaks.

Within the story, Integra serves as the strategic leader of the Hellsing Organization, directing operations from headquarters while occasionally taking the field herself. She gives Alucard his orders, choosing when and how to deploy humanity's most powerful weapon against vampire threats. She also commands the organization's human soldiers, including the Wild Geese mercenary unit. Her role places her in opposition not only to vampires but also to the Vatican's Section XIII, led by Enrico Maxwell and Father Alexander Anderson, though she has been known to cooperate with them when necessary.

The most significant relationship in Integra's life is with her servant Alucard. Their bond has been described by the manga creator as a twisted form of love. She is the only person Alucard truly obeys, and he has helped her grow into a leader worthy of his servitude. He protects her life and honor fiercely, once threatening to kill Maxwell for insulting her. Their connection operates on multiple levels: master and servant, wielder and weapon, and something deeper that remains unresolved. Alucard has offered her his blood on multiple occasions, and in the final chapter, she willingly gives him her own blood after he returns from a thirty-year absence.

Her relationship with Walter C. Dornez, the family butler, was one of deep trust, as she had grown up asking his opinions and relying on his support. His eventual betrayal and transformation into a vampire serves as one of her greatest personal trials. With Seras Victoria, the policewoman turned vampire who becomes Alucard's fledgling, Integra develops a close working relationship and, over time, a genuine friendship that lasts for decades.

Integra undergoes significant character development throughout the series. As a child, she was timid but possessed a strong will. After Alucard became her servant, she grew more confident and comfortable with her position. During the war against Millennium, her remaining innocence dissolves as she faces betrayal, loss, and the full horror of what she is fighting. The Major himself recognizes her transformation, first calling her a beautiful Fraulein and later apologizing for that characterization, acknowledging her as the most dangerous enemy standing in his way. By the story's end, thirty years after the final battle, Integra has embraced being an aging leader. She acknowledges that family-run organizations like Hellsing are becoming outdated and that government agencies will eventually take over. When Alucard finally returns, she is an older woman, but their bond remains intact, and she welcomes him back with her characteristic blend of sternness and affection.

Regarding notable abilities, Integra is a superb fencer with remarkable reflexes and speed. She has been able to briefly block an attack from Alexander Anderson, a feat few humans could accomplish. Her swordsmanship allows her to behead Nazi vampire soldiers in close quarters combat, performing feats that even experienced mercenaries could not manage. Her marksmanship with a pistol is equally impressive, demonstrated by her ability to shoot through the same hole on a practice target repeatedly and shatter Anderson's blessed bayonets with precise gunfire. She uses blessed bullets and carries a blessed silver sword as her primary weapons. Beyond her combat skills, Integra is highly intelligent with strong tactical and strategic abilities. She can deduce enemy patterns and predict their movements, and she was among the first to identify Millennium as a threat stemming from the Nazi Third Reich. She also possesses significant knowledge of the occult, necessary for controlling Alucard and understanding the supernatural threats she faces. Perhaps her greatest ability, however, is her indomitable will and commanding presence, which allows her to intimidate even enemies and command respect from beings far more powerful than herself.
