Description
Kazuki Fuchoin is a major supporting character, recognized as the last heir of the noble Fuchoin clan and the sole master of the Fuchoin string arts. Born on January 1st, he is twenty years old and stands 176 centimeters tall. His background is marked by tragedy, as his family and home were destroyed in an attack by a rival clan when he was in his early teens. Following his mother's final wish, he fled to the sprawling and lawless settlement known as the Infinity Fortress, accompanied by his childhood friend and protector, Jubei Kakei, and Jubei's sister, Sakura.
Within the Infinity Fortress, Kazuki formed a gang named Fuuga, which he led until he met Ginji Amano. He disbanded Fuuga out of respect for Ginji and joined the latter's powerful gang, VOLTS, as one of its four revered kings. Known by the epithets Kazuki of the Strings and the Prince of Fear, he is a figure of considerable renown. After VOLTS was ultimately disbanded, Kazuki left the Fortress and now works as an informant, using his skills to gather information for those who seek him out.
Kazuki possesses a personality of striking contrasts. On the surface, he is exceptionally graceful, courteous, and gentle, which, combined with his long hair and delicate features, leads to him being frequently mistaken for a woman. This appearance is a result of his clan's traditions, which required him to wear feminine clothing and practice arts like playing the koto to cultivate the grace central to his fighting style. He is known to be easily embarrassed and is a loyal and trusting friend, sometimes to a fault, as his faith in others has occasionally been exploited. Despite this gentle demeanor, a fierce and merciless side emerges when he is truly angered. This dangerous alter ego earned him the title Prince of Fear, a name that inspires terror and reflects the cruelty he is capable of showing, particularly when he accesses a power known as the Stigma.
His primary motivation is tied to the destruction of his clan. While he does not actively seek revenge, his past is a significant driving force, and his work as an informant often leads him into conflicts that uncover the truth about what happened to his family. His role in the story is that of a powerful and knowledgeable ally to the protagonists, largely due to his deep friendship with Ginji Amano, whom he openly admires and trusts absolutely. He maintains a tolerant but not particularly close relationship with Ban Midou, the other half of the retrieval duo, who often mocks his feminine appearance with unflattering nicknames. His most significant relationship is with Jubei Kakei, his lifelong friend and protector. Their bond is incredibly strong, surviving betrayals and battles that have left one of them blind, and they eventually return to each other's side after reconciling.
Kazuki undergoes significant development as he confronts his past. He once ascended to a dangerous area of the Fortress called the Beltline, a trial that gave him the Stigma in his left eye. This mark is not merely a source of power but is said to signify a chosen mission from the Fortress itself. The greatest revelation in his personal journey is the discovery that the enemy who destroyed his clan, the Kokuchouin, is a related hidden clan. In a pivotal confrontation, he learns that their leader is his own younger brother, Yohan, who was hidden away at birth because the Stigma he bore was considered a bad omen. In a powerful act of familial love and sacrifice, Kazuki tears out his own Stigma eye to negate its power and uses a forbidden, secret technique called the Phoenix to resolve the misunderstanding, showing that his capacity for compassion triumphs over the cycle of hatred.
Kazuki's notable abilities center on the Fuchoin string arts, a highly versatile fighting style that emphasizes beauty and grace. He wields nearly indestructible strings, which he stores in two small bells tied to the strand of hair on the right side of his head. By controlling the vibrations of these strings with his fingertips, he can make them razor-sharp, capable of cutting through flesh, bone, and even steel. His offensive techniques are named after natural water phenomena such as Misty Rain, Torrent, and Deluge, while he also possesses strong defensive moves like the Cocoon Shield. The strings have other practical uses, including listening to distant conversations, which makes him an excellent informant. His ultimate techniques include the Comet, which rains down countless strings from above, and the Empty Moon, which creates a vacuum to slash an opponent. While his skills are formidable and widely feared, he can be overpowered by opponents of exceptional strength.
