Description
Arika Amazake, known as Erika in some English adaptations, is a central figure in the Medabots franchise, appearing across both the original anime series and its sequel, Medarot Damashii, as well as in numerous video games such as Medarot 2, Medarot 3, Medarot 4, Medabots AX, and Medarot DS. She is a childhood friend and classmate of the protagonist, Ikki Tenryou. Her primary occupation is that of a student journalist, serving as a reporter for her school's newspaper, which is initially called the Riverview Review and later becomes the Amazake Newspaper.

Personality-wise, Arika is defined by her strong-willed, feisty, and occasionally bossy demeanor. She is notably assertive, frequently bossing Ikki around and pressuring him to assist with her investigations. However, this tough exterior hides a more sensitive and feminine side that emerges in specific situations, such as her secret hobby of tending to a flower garden. Her tomboyish nature is balanced by moments of genuine care for her friends, particularly Ikki. Her core motivation is an unrelenting pursuit of a journalistic scoop, which drives her to investigate any notable event or disturbance in her town. This ambition often leads her to trail Ikki and his Medabot partner, Metabee, as they have a consistent knack for finding trouble and being at the center of major incidents.

In the story, Arika functions as a key supporting character whose reporting activities frequently initiate or drive the plot forward. She uses her position to write articles about Robattles and other newsworthy events, often focusing on Ikki's victories and adventures. Her role becomes more pronounced in Medarot Damashii, where she actively investigates the threat posed by the emotionless Kilobots (or Death Medarots). Her investigations sometimes put her in danger, requiring rescue, but her commitment to the truth remains unwavering.

Arika's most significant relationship is with Ikki Tenryou. As his best friend, she is a constant presence in his life, offering support while also being quick to tease him. Some sources speculate that she harbors romantic feelings for Ikki, as she displays jealousy when he interacts with other girls like Karin or Nae Akihabara. However, this is not a primary focus of the narrative, and in the latter part of the original series, she is said to develop an attraction to a Medafighter from Iceland named Belmont. Her other key relationship is with her Medabot partner, Sailor-Multi, whom she affectionately nicknames Brass. Brass serves not only as her companion in Robattles but also as her de facto camera operator, filming footage for Arika's news reports.

Arika demonstrates some character development across the series. In Medarot Damashii, while still retaining her core traits, she is described by some analyses as becoming more spiteful, and she grapples with ethical dilemmas and competition from other school clubs, such as the broadcasting club. Her screen time is somewhat reduced in the sequel, shifting her more firmly into a supporting role, but she remains proactive, even clearing Ikki's name when he is falsely incriminated by manipulated video footage. A subplot also reveals her softer side when a secret garden she maintains is destroyed during a Robattle, causing her significant personal distress.

Regarding her notable abilities, Arika is a capable Medabotter, though her primary focus remains journalism. She consistently favors Sailor-type and female Knight-type Medabots. Her signature Medabot is Sailor-Multi (Brass), a shooting-type Medabot equipped with a radar for scouting enemies, a machine gun called the Pateri Vulcan, and a rifle called the Short Shot. In the video games, Arika's team of Medabots evolves over time; she later acquires units such as Pretty Prime, Last Sailor, and Gallant Lady. In the anime, Brass is noted for having poor aim and weak shots, though her accuracy can be dramatically improved using her head part, the Variablehair. As a journalist, Arika's primary skill is her relentless investigative drive and her ability to uncover information, often through persistence and a willingness to go to great lengths for a story, such as dressing up as a girl to bait a perpetrator.
