Description
Ikki Tenryuu is an elementary school student who serves as the main protagonist of his story, a boy whose passion for Medabots is matched only by his initial inability to own one. Living in a world where Robattles are a primary form of entertainment, Ikki is known for his lively, easygoing, and stubbornly brave nature. He is depicted as a poor student who would rather spend his time on Medabot strategies than on schoolwork, yet his enthusiasm often hides a strategic and adaptable mind.
Ikki's journey begins when he comes across a rare and powerful Kabuto Medal at the bottom of a river. Using his savings, he purchases an obsolete KBT-type Medabot model from a local shop and combines it with the medal to create his partner, whom he names Metabee. Unlike typical obedient robots, Metabee possesses a strong-willed, rude, and disobedient personality due to the unique medal, which becomes a source of frequent friction between the pair. Despite their constant arguing, this relationship evolves into a profound partnership built on mutual respect and trust as they face numerous challenges together.
Throughout his adventures, Ikki is driven by a dream to become the world's best Medafighter and a legend in the sport. He is motivated not just by personal glory but also by a dedication to the principles of fair competition and the traditional spirit of Robattling. This commitment is tested when he faces threats like the Death Medarot Company, which produces emotionless Kilobots programmed to win by any means, including cheating. In these conflicts, Ikki takes on the role of a defender of ethical Medabot use, relying on his tactical improvisation and a firm grasp of his Medabot's capabilities to overcome opponents who lack honor. With the help of the mechanic Nae, he receives upgrades for Metabee, transforming him into more powerful models like Saikachis to face these ruthless adversaries.
Key relationships also define Ikki's path. He shares a close friendship with Arika, a childhood friend who often supports him. He develops a romantic interest in a girl named Karin. His rivalry with Koji, another skilled Medafighter, pushes him to improve, and he eventually gains allies such as the mysterious Medafighter Yuuzuru and the reformed antagonist Ginkai. Ikki's development is marked by his gradual maturation from a boy who simply wanted a Medabot into a strategic and resilient leader. While he initially struggles with Metabee's defiant character, he learns to channel that rebelliousness into an effective battle strategy, culminating in the ability to unlock the powerful Medaforce. His persistence and growth consistently reinforce his role as a symbol of integrity in the Robattle arena.
