Description
Meta-Bee, often shortened from Metal Beetle, is a KBT-type Medarot based on a Japanese rhinoceros beetle. His design features a gold-and-yellow body with white and black accents, and his head carries missile launchers resembling beetle horns. He is a well-balanced shooting specialist equipped with a revolver on his right arm, a submachine gun on his left, and powerful tracking missiles from his head. In the anime, he is an outdated model that Ikki Tenryou acquires after finding a rare Kabuto Medal by a river and placing it into an old Medabot body bought from a store clerk named Henry. That medal originally belonged to Henry, who had used Metabee to win the World Robattle Championship years earlier before a disastrous event known as the Ten Days of Darkness led to them parting ways.
Personality wise, Metabee is headstrong, overconfident, stubborn, and often aggressive. He frequently disobeys Ikki’s commands during battles, leading to arguments, yet he shares a deep bond of trust and loyalty with his owner. He is quick to act on his own instincts and believes in his own strength, never giving up even when the odds are against him. Despite his cheeky attitude, he is a loyal companion who will risk himself to protect his friends. His motivation revolves around proving his worth as a fighter and standing by Ikki in every challenge. He has a particular fondness for watermelons, a trait common to beetle-type Medarots, and enjoys old western films, though he cannot swim.
In the story, Metabee serves as Ikki’s primary Medarot throughout the original series and later in Medabots Damashii. He starts as a relatively weak, out-of-date machine but grows into a formidable battler, representing Japan alongside Ikki in the World Robattle Championship. His rare Kabuto Medal grants him access to the powerful Medaforce, a mysterious energy that can be unleashed as a devastating double-cannon blast called Ultra Shot; using it leaves him drained and with no memory of the event. Over the course of the series, he confronts the Rubberobo Gang, the Phantom Renegade (actually Henry in disguise), and other threats, eventually having his Medal broken and restored. In the second season, his parts are upgraded to the Saikachis model, which gives him new abilities such as Action Mode and Demolition Mode, allowing him to use the Medaforce more freely.
Key relationships include his bond with Ikki, who trusts him deeply despite their frequent quarrels. He also has a rivalry with Rokusho, the stag-beetle counterpart, and a complicated history with his former owner Henry. His development shows a shift from a volatile, self-centered Medarot to a dependable partner who fights for more than just victory. Notable abilities include his standard shooting attacks, seeker missiles, and the rare Medaforce, which can pierce armor and turn the tide of battle. His catchphrase after using the Medaforce for the first time is “Dude, I rock.” Metabee’s presence is central to the series, embodying both the rebellious spirit and the deep friendship that defines the world of Medabots.
