Description
Hanna is a soldier from the kingdom of Gupta who appears in the anime Fencer of Minerva. She is the sibling of Alberto, and together they serve as agents for their homeland.
Her primary driving characteristic is her deep romantic love for Prince Marlon of Gupta. This affection serves as both her motivation and her greatest vulnerability. In an effort to serve her prince and her kingdom, Hanna participates in a desperate mission to assassinate King Teo of Doria, though the attempt is ultimately thwarted by a slave named Ulsra who saves the king's life.
Hanna's role in the story largely centers on a complex espionage scheme devised by Prince Marlon. During a journey to Gupta, Marlon plants Hanna as a slave and servant to gather information on the visiting Doria dignitaries, King Sho and Queen Diana. However, Sho and Diana quickly become aware of her true purpose as a spy. Rather than exposing her, they choose to turn the situation to their advantage by manipulating Hanna's feelings for Marlon.
Key to this manipulation is Diana, who defeats Hanna in a match and then instructs her to request that Marlon make her his slave. Although Marlon is initially reluctant, he agrees to the arrangement after conversations with Sho, and the ritual of slave training subsequently proceeds. Through this series of events, Hanna becomes a pawn in the larger political and strategic game being played between the two kingdoms.
Her relationship with Marlon is central to her identity. It is the emotion that her enemies exploit and the primary reason she undertakes dangerous missions for Gupta, including both the assassination attempt and the infiltration of the Doria court. Her connection to her brother Alberto also places her within a family unit that serves the Gupta cause.
In terms of development, Hanna transitions from an active operative attempting to kill an enemy king to someone placed in the subservient position of a slave, all while believing she is acting on behalf of the prince she loves. Her personal desires are consistently used to advance the agendas of more powerful players around her.
