Princess Allura is a central character in the animated series Voltron: Defender of the Universe. She is the royal heir of Planet Arus and the last surviving member of her royal family. Her father, King Alfor, died fighting the evil King Zarkon, and the planet Arus was held hostage under Zarkon's control until the Voltron Force freed it. As the de facto ruler of Arus, Allura serves as commander in chief of the planet's defenses and head of state, carrying a deep sense of responsibility for her people and their recovery.

At sixteen years old, Allura is brave, strong-willed, and fiercely compassionate, with her people's best interests at heart. She is also somewhat naïve and youthful, and her assertiveness sometimes clashes with the efforts of her royal advisor and her caretaker Nanny to make her behave in a more traditionally royal manner. Her courage is genuine, but her inexperience as a pilot occasionally puts herself and the Voltron Force in danger early in the series.

Her primary motivations are to avenge her fallen homeworld, defeat Zarkon, and restore peace and safety to the people of Arus. Determined to honor her father's legacy, she is willing to accept great responsibility despite her youth. Allura is the traditional pilot of the Blue Lion, one of the five mechanical lions that combine to form the robot Voltron. She assumes the Blue Lion permanently after the previous pilot, Sven, is no longer able to serve, and she acts as a leader and guiding presence for the Voltron Force as they carry out their missions.

Allura shares close bonds with the other members of the Voltron Force, particularly with Keith Kogane, who is her love interest. Her relationship with her late father shapes much of her sense of duty and resolve, while her day-to-day life is anchored by the care of Nanny and the counsel of the royal advisor Coran. She also keeps a group of highly intelligent pet mice that understand human speech and that she can understand in return.

Over the course of the story, Allura develops from a somewhat sheltered princess into a capable, dependable pilot and a respected leader. Stepping into the Blue Lion marks a turning point for her, and she steadily gains confidence and combat experience as she fights alongside the other paladins, earning their trust as an equal member of the team. In battle, she is skilled at piloting the Blue Lion and joining with the other lions to form Voltron, and her signature weapon within Voltron is the bow and arrow, which can also be wielded in the form of a whip. Her unique rapport with her pet mice further reflects her gentle but determined nature as a princess devoted to protecting her world.
