Monica Manjarrez

Description
Mónica Manjarrez is the stage name of Mónica Elizabeth Gómez Dosamantes, a Mexican former actress of dubbing, recognized for her extensive work in Latin American Spanish voiceovers for animation and live-action productions. She was born on December 31, 1967, in Mexico City. Manjarrez began her career in dubbing in 1985 after being introduced to the field by actor Maynardo Zavala, though her debut role was in the 1980 series Astroboy. She studied under notable figures in Mexican dubbing such as Narciso Busquets, Jorge Sánchez Fogarty, and Rocío Garcel.

Within the realm of anime, Manjarrez is most prominently known as the definitive Spanish voice for the character Rei Hino, also known as Sailor Mars, in the Sailor Moon franchise. She voiced the character in the original anime series, its television specials, and returned for later installments including Sailor Moon Crystal and its sequel, the two-part film Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie. Her association with the series is one of her most celebrated achievements, and she has been a guest at fan conventions dedicated to the magical girl genre.

Her other significant anime roles include being the second voice of Bulma in the latter part of Dragon Ball Z and in Dragon Ball GT, taking over from Rocío Garcel. She also voiced Ayako in the sports series Slam Dunk, Professor Seki in Ojamajo Doremi, and Yolei Inoue in Digimon Adventure 02. Her filmography extends to classic and popular titles such as Lady Oscar (as Oscar François de Jarjayes), Robotech, Sakura Card Captors, and Inuyasha.

Throughout her decades-long career, Manjarrez became one of the most sought-after voice actresses in Mexico. In addition to her anime work, she was the Spanish voice for iconic characters in Western animation and live-action, including Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy, Fran Fine in The Nanny, and Didi Pickles in Rugrats. She retired from dubbing in 2012 to focus on her family, made a brief return in 2016, and definitively retired from the profession in 2021, although she did make a final return for the Sailor Moon Eternal films that same year. Following her retirement, she has worked as a real estate agent. Information regarding a voice role for the character Akemi Suzaku in the series Great Pretender could not be verified in the available sources.
