TV-Series
Description
Noa Izumi is the main protagonist of the Patlabor franchise, a young police officer from Tomakomai, Hokkaido, where her family runs a liquor store. She serves as the pilot of the Ingram Unit 1 patrol labor for the Special Vehicles Section 2, Division 2 of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. She is a cheerful, energetic, and perky young woman with a strong sense of justice and a natural affinity for labors, which she treats almost like beloved pets rather than mere machines. She named her personal labor Alphonse, a name she previously gave to a pet dog and a pet cat during her childhood. Noa is impulsive and does not always think things through, though she is less reckless than some of her colleagues. Despite her impulsive nature, she is widely regarded as one of the best pilots in Division 2, with a natural talent that allows her to push her labor to its maximum performance. She is a pacifist at heart who tries to minimize the use of force during missions, but she does not hesitate to take on dangerous assignments when ordered by her commander, and she can show belligerence when the situation demands it. Noa is motivated by a genuine love for her work, a desire to prove her skills and dedication to her team, and the thrill of the camaraderie that comes with her role. She comes from a family that runs a liquor store, which has given her a notably high tolerance for alcohol and a faster recovery from hangovers compared to her coworkers. Her key relationships include her frequent partner Ohta, whose own impulsiveness often balances out hers, as well as Captain Kiichi Goto, who she trusts to give her orders. She also shares a strong bond with the other members of Division 2, including pilots Clancy and Kumagami, who are also highly talented but rarely pilot. Throughout the series, Noa develops from an enthusiastic and somewhat inexperienced novice into a more strategic and responsible operator, learning to balance her impulsiveness with a more tactical approach gained through experience and the guidance of her teammates. Her growth is not about becoming more powerful but about learning responsibility, restraint, and moral clarity. Her notable abilities include exceptional piloting skills, a natural affinity for operating labors, quick reflexes, and a remarkable physical resilience that aids her in recovery from both physical and mental challenges.
