Description
Miyako Inoue, also known as Yolei Inoue, is one of the main protagonists of Digimon Adventure 02. She is a Chosen Child, also referred to as a DigiDestined, partnered with the bird‑type Digimon Hawkmon, making her the first central DigiDestined to be partnered with a Digimon of the opposite gender. She is the youngest child in a large family that includes her parents, an older brother named Mantarou, and two older sisters, Momoe and Chizuru. The family runs a small convenience store called Ai‑Mart, from which Miyako often takes food to supply the group and their Digimon. She is a sixth‑grade student at Odaiba Elementary School and first encountered Digimon in March 2000, having indirectly helped the original DigiDestined during the battle against Diaboromon.
In terms of personality, Miyako is stubborn, cheeky, and impulsive. She is loud, bold, and rarely backs down from an opinion. Despite her sometimes overbearing manner, she is very sincere and true to her feelings, to the point that she can be unaware of how her emotions affect those around her. She is compassionate and generous by nature, and she is capable of being decisive and resourceful when the situation demands it. Miyako has odd tendencies to suddenly become depressed without clear explanation, but she consistently finds the strength to recover and support her friends. She is also geeky and technically skilled, able to fix everything from household appliances to computers, and she idolizes both Mimi Tachikawa and Koushiro Izumi for their respective qualities.
Her motivations stem from a strong sense of loyalty and a desire to protect her friends and the Digital World. She is eager to help others and does not shy away from difficult challenges, though her initial enthusiasm can sometimes lead to recklessness. Throughout the series, she develops a crush on Ken Ichijouji, and after initially distrusting him due to his past as the Digimon Emperor, she eventually accepts him as a teammate and friend.
Miyako’s role in the story begins when she receives her D‑3 Digivice and meets Hawkmon during her first week of the final school year. She becomes part of a new team of DigiDestined alongside Davis Motomiya, Ken Ichijouji, Takeru Takaishi, Hikari Yagami, and Iori Hida. She plays a key part in battles, using the Digi‑Egg of Love and the Digi‑Egg of Sincerity to Armor Digivolve Hawkmon into forms such as Shurimon and Halsemon. She also achieves DNA Digivolution with Hikari, forming the powerful Digimon Silphymon. Her technical abilities prove invaluable on multiple occasions, such as when she uses her laptop to activate mobile phones across a crowd to help capture Kuramon in the film Digimon Adventure 02: Diablomon Strikes Back.
