Description
Koran is the royal adviser to Princess Allura and a trusted member of the Voltron Force in the original series Voltron: Defender of the Universe. He previously served as the adviser to King Alfor and was a close friend of the late king. Before the invasion of Arus by the evil King Zarkon, Koran was married to a woman named Leda and had a young son named Garrett. His wife and son were believed to have perished during the attack, but they actually survived and were transported to another dimension, a fact Koran discovers in a later episode. After the destruction of the royal court, Koran and the young Princess Allura were the only survivors, and he raised her in hiding within the ruined Castle of Lions, waiting for the chance to restore peace to their planet.

Koran is a proper, traditional, and serious individual who often serves as the voice of reason for the team. He is deeply duty-bound and takes his vow to protect Allura and serve the royal family extremely seriously. This sense of duty frequently leads him to be overprotective, sometimes even undermining Allura’s authority or interfering with her decisions. For example, in early episodes he goes so far as to physically restrain her from piloting the Blue Lion, believing it is his responsibility to keep her safe at all costs. He can also be quick to assume the worst in tense situations, often jumping ahead of himself and overreacting to threats. Despite these tendencies, he is genuinely dedicated and kind-hearted, always acting out of concern for the princess, the team, and the planet Arus.

Within the story, Koran acts as an adviser to both Allura and the Voltron Force, managing castle affairs and offering strategic guidance. He is not a lion pilot himself, but he plays a crucial role in supporting the team from the command center. His relationship with Allura is the central one of his life; he is a father figure to her, protective and sometimes overbearing, but always with her best interests at heart. He also works alongside Nanny, the princess’s other caretaker, and interacts with the five paladins, often acting as a bridge between the royal family and the Earth pilots. As the series progresses, Koran gradually becomes more accepting of Allura’s capabilities as a pilot and leader, though his protective instincts never fully disappear. He continues to serve as the moral and practical anchor of the group, ensuring that the castle and its resources are maintained for the fight against Zarkon.

Koran’s notable abilities include extensive knowledge of the Castle of Lions and its systems, as well as administrative and diplomatic skills. He is a capable strategist and often contributes to planning missions. His experience surviving the fall of Arus gives him a deep understanding of the stakes involved in the conflict, and his loyalty to the royal family and the Voltron Force remains unwavering throughout the series.
