Tops is a young triceratops orphaned under traumatic circumstances when the predator Gorgo attacks his herbivore group, separating him from his parents. He wanders alone until discovered by the travelers Tyrano and Punon. They take him under their care during their quest to find the Herbivore Paradise, becoming his surrogate parents.

Initially cheerful and trusting, Tops bonds quickly with Tyrano and Punon. His emotional vulnerability becomes central when another character, Ructo, deliberately manipulates him. Ructo falsely claims Tyrano caused the death of Tops' mother, exploiting the child's grief and lack of knowledge about her fate. This deception triggers a devastating emotional breakdown, causing Tops to flee from Tyrano and Punon in distress.

Indirect evidence later confirms his mother's death, deepening Tops' trauma. Despite this, he ultimately reaches the safety of the Herbivore Paradise with Tyrano and Punon. Following the climactic confrontation with Gorgo, Tops remains within the Herbivore Paradise community. His story concludes there as Punon departs to continue her quest, leaving Tops integrated among the peaceful herbivores.
