Description
Jun Motomiya is a supporting character in Digimon Adventure 02, primarily known as the older sister of the protagonist Daisuke Motomiya, often referred to as Davis in some adaptations. She is approximately six years older than her brother, which places her at about seventeen years old at the start of the series, where she is a high school student beginning her eleventh grade year. She lives with her parents and younger brother and was among the children taken hostage by the villainous Myotismon during the events in Tokyo on August 3, 1999.
Personality-wise, Jun is energetic, outgoing, and often described as being quite noisy and gossipy. She has a tendency to act on impulse and is very expressive with her emotions. She frequently teases her younger brother Daisuke, enjoys spreading rumors about him, and seems to take pleasure in holding his mistakes over his head. Despite this constant ribbing, she genuinely cares for her family, even if their sibling dynamic is often contentious.
Jun's primary motivation throughout much of Digimon Adventure 02 is her enthusiastic, and often comical, pursuit of a romantic relationship. She is a devoted fan of the band Teen-age Wolves and is especially fixated on its lead vocalist and bassist, Yamato Ishida (also known as Matt). This infatuation leads her to take extreme measures, such as following Yamato and his friends on a camping trip to Lake Yamanaka, though her plan is beset by mishaps, including getting a ride to the wrong location. She eventually catches up to them on the last day of their trip, forcing a flustered Yamato to escort her back to Tokyo.
Her role in the story is primarily that of a recurring comic relief character, serving as an extension of the protagonists' personal lives in the real world. She provides a glimpse into Daisuke's home life and acts as a source of humorous tension, particularly for Yamato. However, a key moment of personal development occurs during a Christmas Eve concert. When a Digimon attack interrupts the show, Jun witnesses Yamato saving Sora Takenouchi from falling debris, which makes her realize the romantic connection between them. From that moment, she loses her romantic interest in Yamato, though she remains a fan of his music. Her affections quickly transfer to a new target, Shuu Kido (the older brother of Joe Kido), after he brings a weary Daisuke home from a battle on December 26th.
Regarding key relationships, her most significant dynamic is with her brother, Daisuke. Though she constantly criticizes him, their bond is a conventional sibling relationship. She is close friends with her classmate Momoe, who is the older sister of another Chosen Child, Yolei Inoue. The two of them are frequently seen together at Teen-age Wolves concerts.
Jun's most notable development occurs outside the main television series, in the broadcast drama titled Digimon Adventure 02: Original Story 2003 -Spring-. In this narrative, it is revealed that she has become a DigiDestined (a Chosen Child) in her own right, obtaining her own Digimon partner. This elevates her from a simple civilian to an active participant in the Digital World's affairs. Information about her partner Digimon is not detailed in the standard series. In terms of abilities, as a high school student without a partner for most of the series, she has no supernatural powers. Her notable skills include a relentless determination once she sets her mind to something and, as later established, a perceptive eye that allows her to quickly read social situations, which is how she discerns the relationship between Yamato and Sora. In subsequent epilogue material, such as Digimon Adventure -Beyond-, she is seen working as a nurse at the same hospital as Joe Kido and his brother Shuu.
