Description
Makoto is a young boy and one of the human partners of the Digimon Impmon in the anime Digimon Tamers. He is the younger brother of Ai, and together the two siblings serve as Impmon's original tamers. Both are very young children who frequently argue with each other over their shared Digimon partner and their toys. Because of their young age and constant squabbling, they have limited screen time compared to the main tamer group, and their role in the story is primarily tied to Impmon's backstory and development.

Makoto's personality is typical of a very young child: he is immature, prone to bickering with his sister, and somewhat demanding of Impmon's attention. His motivations are simple—he enjoys having Impmon around and playing with him, but he does not fully understand the responsibilities of being a tamer. The arguments between Makoto and Ai contribute to Impmon's feelings of being undervalued and overlooked, which ultimately drives Impmon to leave them in search of greater power and respect from other Digimon and tamers.

Within the larger narrative, Makoto and Ai serve as the initial point of connection between Impmon and the human world. Their presence explains why Impmon initially has a tamer but later becomes a rogue Digimon. Throughout most of the series, Makoto remains a background figure, and he does not undergo significant personal growth or change. However, after Impmon's redemption arc and the resolution of the conflict with the D-Reaper, Impmon returns to the real world and is reunited with Makoto and Ai, suggesting that their bond is restored and that Impmon has come to appreciate the simple companionship they offered.

Makoto does not possess any special abilities as a tamer, nor does he wield a D-Power or use Digi-Modify cards like the main protagonists. His significance lies in his emotional connection to Impmon and the way his and Ai's relationship with their Digimon partner shapes Impmon's journey from a neglected, resentful Digimon to a redeemed ally.
