Description
Mirai Ozora is a seventeen-year-old high school student living in Tokyo in the year 2045. She lives with her older brother Hiroshi and her younger brother Nozomu. At the start of the story, she appears to be an ordinary teenage girl with a strong interest in shopping, fashion, and beauty contests, and she frequently wins such competitions. She also has a crush on Kaoru Misaki, her brother’s best friend and an astronaut. Her priorities are initially lighthearted and self-focused, and she often struggles with managing her spending habits. When she discovers that her brother Hiroshi has invented a device called the Mol-Unit, which can generate a powerful suit of armor that grants superhuman abilities, she becomes curious and decides to tamper with its costume design. Out of a desire to improve what she sees as a tacky outfit, she reprograms the unit to create a more feminine, sailor-inspired appearance. This unintentionally causes the suit to randomly alternate between its original male form and her new female form. Forced to deal with the glitch, Hiroshi passes the Mol-Unit to Mirai, and she becomes the superheroine known as Moldiver. Mirai initially takes on this role with reluctance and a sense of obligation, but over time she becomes more accustomed to her responsibilities. Her motivations are primarily personal at first, such as impressing Kaoru or getting out of trouble caused by her own actions, but she gradually becomes more committed to protecting others from threats. The main antagonistic forces she faces are Dr. Machinegal, a roboticist who was once a friend of Hiroshi, and his army of android dolls known as the Machinegal Dolls, as well as her own younger brother Nozomu, who develops his own Mol-Unit and becomes a third superhero-villain figure opposing both his siblings. Mirai’s key relationships include her rivalry and friendship with Mao Shirase, her best friend and fellow beauty contest contestant; her unrequited romantic interest in Kaoru Misaki; her somewhat strained but ultimately cooperative dynamic with her brother Hiroshi, who supports her from behind the scenes as Captain Tokyo; and her confrontations with her brother Nozomu, who acts out of spite. Throughout the series, Mirai develops from a carefree and somewhat shallow teenager into a more dependable and capable heroine. She learns to manage the limited duration of the Mol-Unit’s power, which lasts only 666 seconds, or about eleven minutes, per activation. Her abilities include superhuman strength, flight at speeds approaching that of light, intangibility, resistance to bullets and missiles, and the capacity to withstand extreme temperatures and pressure, all controlled mentally through the dimensional barrier generated by the Mol-Unit. Despite these powers, she remains vulnerable to emotional insecurity and often finds herself in comedic situations, but she consistently rises to the occasion when danger threatens those around her.
