Octowing is a Dochamon, a guardian spirit associated with one of Japan's 47 prefectures. As a junior guardian in training, it aims to graduate and assume the duties of an elder Dochamon. The character serves as a direct rival to Shiro, a kashiwa-mochi Dochamon and the main protagonist. Octowing is more favored and respected by the other Dochamon residents, creating a point of contention between them. Octowing claims to be nearing graduation from the Dochamon world, a goal Shiro also aspires to but struggles with due to his immaturity and cowardice.
