Description
Jun Tao is the older sister of Tao Ren and the firstborn child of the Tao Family, an ancient and powerful clan of Chinese shamans with a history spanning over two thousand years. Raised within this family, which became bitter and mistrustful of outsiders after being ostracized for their abilities, Jun was taught from a young age that her primary purpose was to support her younger brother in his quest to become the Shaman King. Her mother, Tao Ran, was the one who trained Jun to become a Dàoshì, a Taoist priest with the power to reanimate and control corpses. Her father, Tao Yúan, viewed his children as tools to restore the family's lost honor, a perspective that shaped Jun's early worldview.

In terms of personality, Jun initially appears cruel and ruthless, reflecting her family's harsh teachings. She believed that her jiangshi, or guardian zombie, was merely a tool to be used for the family's ambitions, showing no regard for the spirit bound to the corpse. She is highly confident in her own abilities and fiercely devoted to Ren, believing strongly in his potential and willing to do almost anything to help him succeed. However, beneath this tough exterior lies a capacity for change. After a conflict with the shaman Yoh Asakura, where her jiangshi regained its will and chose to protect her, Jun had a profound realization. She acknowledged that her treatment of the spirit was wrong and apologized, forming a genuine, respectful bond with her guardian. From that point on, her personality becomes notably kinder and more compassionate, while still retaining her fierce loyalty to her brother. She later even defied her father's expectations to ensure Ren's well-being and freedom.

Jun's primary motivation is the success and happiness of her younger brother, Tao Ren. She was raised specifically to support his goal of winning the Shaman Tournament and is deeply invested in his fate. Her role in the story is initially that of an antagonist sent to secure a powerful spirit for Ren after his defeat. Following her own defeat and subsequent change of heart, she becomes a supportive ally. She participates in the Shaman Fight preliminaries as part of Team Tao, using her skills to provide tactical support from behind the scenes, managing talismans and coordinating her zombie guardians. Later, she takes on a more prominent role, starring alongside her jiangshi in the spin-off Shaman King: Red Crimson, where she battles against an exiled faction of the Tao Family known as Red Crimson. After the Shaman Fight concludes, she serves as the acting president of the company her brother Ren founded.

Her most significant relationship is with her guardian ghost, Lee Bailong, also known as Lee Pyron. He was a famous Hong Kong movie actor and Kung-Fu master who was murdered by the Tao Family so his corpse could be taken and turned into a jiangshi. Initially, Jun controls him entirely with command talismans called Jufu. After he regains his self-awareness and free will, and Jun learns to treat him as a partner rather than a slave, their bond deepens into a loyal and effective partnership. Her relationship with her brother Ren is also central; she is his protector, confidant, and most ardent supporter, even pleading with her father to release Ren from the family's strict control. Her development is marked by this shift from a cold, tool-based view of spirits to one of respect and partnership, as well as her growing independence from her family's dogmatic and cruel philosophy.

As a Dàoshì, Jun's notable abilities center on necromancy and the control of jiangshi. She uses paper talismans, which she keeps in a garter on her leg, to issue commands to reanimated corpses. Her primary jiangshi is Lee Bailong, whom she can stitch back together when damaged due to her extensive knowledge of human anatomy. She also uses this knowledge to enhance his body, incorporating mechanical upgrades such as hydraulic pistons in his arm to extend his reach and increase his punching power, along with other built-in weaponry like chain guns, rockets, and missile systems. Her furyoku, or spiritual power, is considerable, beginning at 1200 units and growing to 10000 units by the end of the Shaman Fight. Later in the story, she becomes an apprentice to Sati Saigan, a member of the Gandhara team, from whom she learns the advanced technique of resurrecting the dead. Physically, she is a tall, slender young woman with long, spiky green hair and indigo eyes. She typically wears a black and green qipao with a high slit and a design featuring a golden dragon and a panda.
