TV-Series
Description
Laura Haruna is the human owner of Hamtaro and the central human character in the series. She is a young girl, approximately ten to eleven years old, who lives with her parents, Forrest and Marian Haruna. Originally from a different area, she has recently moved to a new neighborhood, which gives her a sense of fresh hope and adjustment to big-city life. Laura is generally cheerful, fun-loving, and deeply caring, especially toward her pet hamster, Hamtaro, with whom she shares a strong mutual bond of affection and trust. She also has a close friendship with a schoolmate named Kana. Laura has a noticeable crush on a boy at school named Travis, but she is somewhat shy about expressing her feelings, though Hamtaro often seems aware of them. Her personality is a mix of kindness and occasional stubbornness; she can pout or become frustrated when things do not go her way, such as when her parents refuse to buy her something she wants. Despite this, she is consistently responsible and places Hamtaro’s safety and happiness above her own desires. Her motivations often revolve around caring for Hamtaro, navigating school life, and maintaining her friendships. She frequently writes in her diary at the end of each day, using it as a way to reflect on events and feelings. Laura’s role in the story is to provide the human context for Hamtaro’s adventures; many episodes show the Ham-Hams secretly trying to help Laura with whatever problem she is facing, whether it is a personal dilemma, a school event, or a family issue. Through these experiences, Laura demonstrates growing maturity and a strong sense of empathy. She also participates in activities with a group of friends who share her interest in animals and nature, forming a sort of club. Laura does not possess extraordinary abilities; her notable traits are her nurturing nature, her ability to communicate with Hamtaro on an emotional level (though she does not understand his language), and her willingness to learn from her mistakes. Her development across the series is subtle but consistent, showing her becoming more self-aware and considerate of others, while her unwavering love for Hamtaro remains the anchor of her character.
