Description
Leon Orcot is a young detective in his mid-twenties who works on homicide cases in Los Angeles. He has blonde hair that he usually keeps tied back in a messy ponytail and narrow blue eyes. He is hot-headed, brash, and often impulsive, driven by a strong sense of justice and a stubborn determination to solve cases by conventional means. His primary motivation stems from his belief that Count D, the enigmatic owner of a pet shop in Chinatown, is a criminal mastermind responsible for a series of gruesome and inexplicable deaths that appear to be linked to the shop's customers. Leon obsessively investigates D, vowing to arrest him and expose what he suspects is a front for drug trafficking or other illegal activities. He has a deep disdain for the supernatural and initially refuses to accept any explanations that involve magic or otherworldly elements, even as mounting evidence challenges his worldview. Over the course of the story, this attitude is tested as he witnesses events he cannot rationally explain.

Leon's role in the narrative is to serve as the main human counterpart to Count D, providing a recurring thread that ties together the episodic encounters of the pet shop's customers. He often inserts himself into the shop's affairs, alternating between confrontation and reluctant cooperation. Despite his initial hostility, he gradually forms a close and complicated relationship with D, marked by mutual curiosity and a strange friendship. Count D occasionally steps in to save Leon when he is in danger, and in turn, Leon is given two pets—a flowering plant and a butterfly—that help him through difficult personal times, unlike the pets sold to other customers that are meant to teach lessons. Leon's name, blonde hair, and lion-like personality often draw comparisons to a real lion, a motif acknowledged by the Count and others. He also exhibits a lecherous nature, frequently pursuing romantic interests. His development involves a slow and reluctant acceptance that the supernatural may be real, though he remains grounded in his role as a detective. Notable abilities include his sharp investigative skills and his physical resilience, but he has no supernatural powers.
