He came from a prominent family of voice actors, being the son of Manlio De Angelis, the grandson of Gualtiero De Angelis, and the older brother of Eleonora De Angelis. De Angelis began his career at the age of twenty-one. One of his first major roles was providing the Italian voice for Prince Eric in the Disney film The Little Mermaid. Over his three-decade career, he became widely recognized for his work in dubbing international productions for the Italian audience.
While De Angelis was a prolific voice for live-action films and television series, he also had a substantial career in animation, including a significant body of work in Italian-dubbed anime. Beyond anime, De Angelis's voice was featured in a wide range of Western animation. He was the Italian voice of I.M. Weasel in I Am Weasel and Elzar, Roberto, and other characters in Futurama. He also voiced Jim Porter in Tarzan, Chas Finster in Rugrats in Paris, and Captain Lincoln F. Sternn in Heavy Metal.
In addition to his work in animation, De Angelis was the primary Italian dubbing voice for several actors, including Matt LeBlanc, Kevin James, Cary Elwes, and Brendan Fraser. He was best known in Italy for dubbing Matt LeBlanc's character Joey Tribbiani in the long-running television series Friends and its spin-off Joey. He also regularly dubbed LeVar Burton as Geordi La Forge in the Star Trek: The Next Generation films and series, and provided voices for actors such as Stephen Dorff, Val Kilmer, and Billy Crudup in numerous films.
De Angelis's work extended beyond performing voices; he also served as a dubbing director and dialogue writer for many projects. His work in this capacity included the Italian versions of films such as Tokyo Godfathers, Paprika, Steamboy, and Tekkonkinkreet. For his direction of the Italian dubbing of the film Whiplash, he was posthumously awarded the Gran Premio Internazionale del Doppiaggio for Best Dubbing Direction in 2015.
